A lot of you most likely have experience in selling a car to a junkyard or someone who takes it to the junkyard for you. My brother in law actually picks up junk cars to sell to junkyards and makes a killing and I am looking at getting into the same deal.
Ill be going to college since I am out of the army now so I will have loads of free time on my hands. I am looking at trading in my 350z for a truck to haul with and when I finish the Mk3 Jetta turbo project I can sell that to buy a trailer/winch and have some startup cash. My brother in law will pick up a car for 2-300 bucks, cut the catalytic converter off, pull the aluminum wheels and radiators/ac condensers and alternators off and then sell the car to the junkyard for 3-400 bucks and sell the rest of the parts as scrap metal. On average he makes about $300 profit per car and gets upwards of 20 cars a week on busy weeks, and about 5-10 a week on slow weeks. That is a profit ranging from $1500-6000 a week!
Obviously starting out I wouldnt be able to do that many cars just because nobody would know about me but thanks to networking, I can have custom stickers made by Kuma85 and get cheap business cards and use craigslist and the newspaper to get my name out there.
Basically looking for input and ideas guys! My wife has a 2010 wolfsburg jetta so I would still be in the VAG community until I get a good chunk of cash to build a car for myself.

Junking cars
Re: Junking cars
Sounds like an ok side hustle. I say ok since you need capital for a truck and trailer. You could make a bit more if you knew what parts were desirable and parted a bit out before taking it to the yard.
I'm pretty sure scrap yards get like $100/title they recycle, not including other profits (scrap, parts, ect).

Re: Junking cars
Yea I figure I can pull parts like switches and small things to sell on Ebay which my BIL does since its easier to store smaller things in big boxes. His basement Is FULL of parts and catalytic converters. He usually scraps all the aluminum and cats once a year. Last year he got 16k cash for his scrap cats not including the profits from the cars and whatnot.
As far as capital, with my Daughter being on the way its not practical to have a 350z for a DD I was selling it anyways. Im only about 1k into my MK3 Jetta 8v turbo and I figure once its setup and running I can sell it for around 3k and use that for the trailer and winch setup with leftover cash. I plan on buying everything used and doing maintainance myself to keep costs down.

Re: Junking cars
Mikey, the Budget wrench apart in town isnt bad. if the car has no title, we can chop it up and haul it to the metal scrap yard.
I got about 250$ each time i scrapped my 200's. $350 for the avant 20v. but then when i scrapped the Mk2 GLI, they offered up 285$ and it was just the shell. What did they give you for that mk3? Im wondering if it is a scale depending on desire/need for parts from those specificly.
Anyways, you need HELLA storage space. Shit you have seen my garage and know that even the small amount of parts i have stacks up.
