Re: Darin's 80tq...4/22/2013...
The mounting bracket for the 22mm sway bar on my subframe are welded on and block access to the bolt holding the tie rod to the subframe. I believe this must have been done to the car not realizing it blocked the access. I'll get a picture of it.

No, physically there is a plate of metal blocking access to the nut to get the stupid bolt out holding the tie rod.

IIRC, this is not a stock metal plate. FYI.
Re: Darin's 80tq...5 lug routes and options...
Today, someone stole one of my wheels caps off of my ABT wheels. Not exactly an easy find for replacement. I have the other set of wheels, but I will need to paint match all the center caps. I'm ticked at the moment. Yes, the easy thing to do is paint, but I never take the easy way out of anything.
So, I'm considering 5 lug. Not concerned about the cheapest route, but I am concerned about the front Brembo brake setup and whether or not I have to replace it as well. What are my options to replace what I have?

So I don't have to read the whole thread, what set up are you running right now?

I have the Ferrari F40 Brembo brakes with S8 rotors (332mm??)

Re: Darin's 80tq...5 lug routes and options...
So S8 rotors will work with 5x112. I don't think you'd have to change anything if you use S2 parts. Doing the A4/urS thing will mess with your rotor offset.

Was gonna say S2 hubs... but got distracted by your brake spec. haha
To do it again I'd have just found a good deal on hubs from s2forum and been done with it. Lots of hassles making the UrS hubs work with my 986 BoxsterS brakes.

Yea F40 and Audi s8 calipers are similar. The S8 rotor size is 323x30 or 345x30...
When I rebuilt my calipers the Brembo rep mentioned that they were also used on Ferrari.

Re: Darin's 80tq...small, but big update...
Well.....cylinder #5 wasn't happy.
I'm not certain when it happened, if it was a sudden event, or gradual, but it was idling rough and low on power so I checked the plugs. This was #5.

A compression test revealed 140, 135, 140, 140 and 100. With a new plug the car runs great, but the boost is dialed back to 18-19 and I won't be hammer down all the time. I have to get the car to BBQ4 where it may stay in Vegas for a bit and I decide what to do.

Re: Darin's 80tq...small, but big update...
Thanks man. I think 83mm pistons and 1000cc injectors with E85 is a good solution to all of this.
On another note, I have a new CV boot, 034 rear tie rods, a brand new driver's side window regulator and a perfectly aligned car! Drive's perfect!

Re: Darin's 80tq...small, but big update...
find a 7a head, chris can cut the water mani holes, I can weld on the block for the cam sensor. problem solved. wasnt it #5 that ate the water jacket? I just picked up argon today, so tig is about to commense. with practice I hope to be as good as hank asap.
Re: Darin's 80tq...small, but big update...
No, #1 ate it when the head blew. Why do you think I need a new head? I won't know until I pull it.

Re: Darin's 80tq...small, but big update...
because I thought it was the water jacket coming back to haunt you. If it was #1, then you may be good if its nothing catastrophic. this is the perfect time for a bore scope.

Sorry, no. But it seems that there are new monitors that pop up at home depot all the time. I dont know if any have become small enough to fit through a spark plug hole yet. If anybody knows, they could speak up?
Re: Darin's 80tq...small, but big update...
Poop man, that does not look happy. You better baby the crap out of that thing until BBQ4. I want to ride in it again!

My dad has one that does. He bought it from Princess Auto (Harbour Freight o'Canada). It even records video and pictures, it's pretty sweet.

Re: Darin's 80tq...small, but big update...
Well, I'm not "babying" the car these days, but I have turned the wick down to about 18-19 psi. I've gone through the whole "maybe I should just sell the car" bit in my head a few times, but took the wife on a date tonight and ripped around a little bit. After a nice second gear pull she looks over at me, sees the grin on my face, and says " you really like this car, don't you?" I do. Time for 1000cc injectors, 83mm pistons and some E85!
