What's up guy,

I just wanted to share the good news! I decided to try and use a spare coil that I have from the FWD 200. After noticing that the starter wasn't engaging I decided to check the fuse box under the hood.

This is what I found:
Image

Found 2 blown fuses that are closet to the fender. I replaced them and IT'S ALIVE!!!

Wait a second, did you get a perfectly good 200 20v for $1,200 plus 2 fuses?

What do you mean plus 2 fuses? I wouldn't say perfectly good, the breaks don't work to well. I tried breaking and the pedal went straight to the floor. Other then that everything seems to be in good shape

My god! Nice work dude! Sounds like a wandering idle, you should check out the side crank case pressure system hose. I bet it's a nice mushy rubber broken oem piece.

Re: 1991 audi 200tq 20v- BRAKE ISSUE

Post by MHCAudi200t »

Whats up guys,

So like i had mentioned before i was able to get the car started. I was able to drived it around my block.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSxomhF ... ata_player

After i tried to brake, the pedal sunk to the floor. My first reaction was to check the brake fluid. I figured it was low since the car had been sitting. The brake fluid was fine, so i decided to bleed the brakes. With the help of my cousin we bled all four brakes. The back driver caliper had a good amount of air. After that i took the car for an other drive but felt a slight difference but seems like after a few pumps it went back to the same feeling. I then did a quick inspection of the lines but didnt notice any of them leaking, which would mean air is getting into the system. Tomorrow ill do a more in depth inspection of the line to double check.

I then began looking in my bentley manual to see if i could find any information that might help me fix the issue. My questions are:

If the return flow pump relay or solenoid valve relay was bad, would it cause the issue i am having?

Thanks in advance!

Of course the number one step is to bleed the brakes. If you want to do this easy without killing a friend pick of a set of "Speed Bleeders" they are bleeder screws with a check valve in them, so literally open them and just keep pumping until only fluid comes out.

The other thing i would check is that the lines are ballooning when you hop on the brakes, there have been multiple reports of the stock lines swelling up (Which would cause a mushy pedal and no brakes) To check this just take a 2x4 and use your electric seats to push it forward to hold the brakes while you look under neath to see if they are expanding. The stainless lines are nice and about 90$, but if you go to rock auto.com you can pick up a brand new rubber set (Which in my opinion on g60's will feel the same) for like 40$ shipped in all corners. I already ordered a new set of stailess steel lines for the front from autohauz. I noticed that they all all cracked and dryed up. I decided to just replace them anyways. I couldn't get a set for the rear. They were on back order, is there any other site where I can get a set of stainless steel lines for the back?

I have also been experiencing issues starting it as the anti-theft would come on. The starter wouldn't engage and the emergency flashers would start flashing. I took my sterio out (crappy wiring) then the alarma control module would buzz after I removed the sterio and tried cranking it. I finally removed my whole dash. Disconnected it and connected it again. It seems to start now consistently for the last 3 days.

Is there anyway to check to see if the alarm module is good?

I would hate to put the dash back in and have the issue again.

Whats up guys,

Since the 20v's brakes were bad, i decided it was a good time to just replace/upgrade parts. I decided to get new brake lines on all four corners and new calipers. For the front i went with braided steel lines from autohauz, for the back i ended up getting professinal grade rubber lines from rockauto.com since i couldnt find steel lines for the back. While i was at it i ordered a new fuel filter and spark plugs, just like magellen suggested.

Image

I ended up getting a set of Rs2 calipers from audifans:
Image

Im still waiting for the calipers in the mail. I know i still need carriers to be able to install the calipers in the back. I was told the front calipers fit with out carriers ( can someone confirm this?)

Also after fighting the anti theft system, which would spountanesly come on and not let the car turn. I removed my dash since the alarm module started buzzing when i would try to crank it.

Image

I disconnected the alarm module and plugged it back in, it starts right up. Till the next time the anti theft comes on, should i just replace it with the alarm module from the parts 200 i have? To me it seems like its starting to malfunction.

Any other things i should check before i put the dash together?

Thanks in advance!

Looking good man - Luckily I haven't had to ever touch my dash ( I just ignore my oil temperature reading of 170* C haha)

Good deal on those maintenance pieces…. and those, those, those brakes! I am a little jealous. Did these come off of a euro RS2 car? If so - do these bolt of to G60 or UFO housings, I know nothing about them.

Making some nice progress!

Can't offer any BTDT with the alarm module, but replacing it with one not known to be on the fritz is a good starting point.

The magallen: well i figured since i was gonna have to fix it to be reliable enought for daily use, i might as well bite the bullet and pull it apart. After reading loxxiders thread, it might be a goid idea to do some interior work. Well after exhanging email with matt ( thats the name of the guy that had them on audifan) he said they were of a real RS2.

Pry4sno: thanks, i figured thats the most logical place to start.

For the alarm issue I would be checking the micro switches on the door lock cylinders as well as the hood/door/trunk switches.

How would i go about checking them?
I was looking in my bentley manual and i found a section in the wiring diagram and electrial book. It talks about the taking measurements from the 3 point connector and 12 point connector, would that be the connectors that go into the alarm module?

Guys,

The RS2 calipers finally arrived in the mail yesterday.

Image

Holy crap are they bigger then what they seemed like on the pics. I hope they fit with the stock bbs, also does any one know where I can find new brake pads for them? I really hope I don't end up working Sunday so I can at least change the brake lines, spark Plugs and fuel filter.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I am pretty damn sure it was 16" that is the minimum. Maybe someone can chime in to see if you could use some extreme spacers or grind them a bit.

Either way, so fucking worth it. Damn balling.

whats up everyone,

My schedule at work has been real busy! Finally today i was able to have time to work on the 20v. I took the lines apart from the rubber hose all the way to the caliper. I went to napa and got 2 8" pre-made brake line for the front and 2 12" lines for the back. Lucky me i didnt have to replace the back passanger line which was way longer then 12". after a few hours i was ready to bleed the air out. The rear line had a good amount of air in them. Once i got to the front i had some issues with the front driver caliper. Once i had my brother pump on the brake pedal and hold, i opend the bleeder screw and no brake fluid would come out. After several attempts still no brake fluid. I jumped over to the passanger caliper and began bleeding it. After a few attempt the air was out and ready. After that i decided to take a test drive around the block to see if there had been any change in the feel of the brakes. Once i began to brake the pedal fell to the floor and i didnt brake, after a few pumps the brake got pressure and began to brake. The brakes lost that spongy feel to them after a few pumps, i have come to the conclusion that the front driver caliper has a leak and is getting air into the system.

Now i need a front diver caliper to be able to use the car as my daily. Although i already got the RS2 caliper, im not quite ready to install them as i need bigger wheels to be able to fit the huge calipers. Also i still need carrier to be able to install them.

If anyone has a front driver caliper that in good shape, or does any one know if the calipers from the FWD 200 work?
