200 hood release questions

Post by iammrfancypants »

So I am putting the hood release back into my 200. Unfortunately it has been months since it was hooked back up. I believe I am doing it correctly per EKTA, but I can only get the passenger side to release. The way I have it routed I do not see how the cable would push the arm to release it on the driver side (suppose to push the lever to the passenger side, so it would have to push the cable (and when you pull the handle is pulls the cable).

If anyone can help me out with this or even just post how their cable is I would appreciate it.

Essentially the way the driver side is set up does nothing. The arm needs to go to the left like I said so I don't see how this or any way would push the cable because the cable pulls. Confused. Please help. Thank you.

You have it right. When you pull the lever, the tension on the passenger side latch, pulls the driver side latch inwards at the same time that it pulls the passenger latch inwards, from my understanding anyways.
it sounds like the latch pins need to be adjusted on the hood itself. Do you know how to adjust those?

I do not know how to adjust those. I have a problem hood up even, trying to get it before I close it (around 20 times manipulating the cable from underneath gets old).

]But if that is how it is suppose to work, the passenger side does not push against the driver side at all. It kind of just stays there and doesn't move :bangshead:

well to adjust the pins is easy, Take a wrench, adjustable crescent wrench is easiest and a pliers. Hold the round part of the pin with the pliers and loosen the hex sided part of the pin. Then you can move the pin around so it lines up in the hole properly.

The tension might not be tight on the release latch?

Haha. Went out. Adjusted the striker things on the hood, put more tension on the cable and same result lol. Hood is stuck shut and don't feel like crawling under it again today. Bleh.

It looks like you have the slip collar on the DS backwards. In the first pic, it shows that it should be slid through the eyelet, then the cable pulls on it that way. You may not be getting enough tention on that side with that in backwards like that.

Just my $.02, as I dont have any experience with the 200 latch system. looks very similar to my B3 though.

So youre saying to flip it around and have it pass through the eyelet? or flip it and place it to the right of the eyelet entirely?

The way you have it setup is proper. I'll try to grab some pictures of mine when I get home. Not sure why yours is such a raging bitch.

Few other pics I snapped.

I would also check your striker pin, my mk2 would never open the hood again because it was so gnarled (Unless I lifted up and to the left)

Also note in the middle of my video how it seems to take up a lot of slack - yours doesn't look to be routed near there perhaps?

Is the cable correctly attached at the lever under the dash? Mine wasn't and took out most of the travel needed to open the second latch.

Also, you should be able to go through the grille and pull the cable towards the front of the car to open it. I used long nosed pliers and one of theose precision screwdriver/pick/hook thingies, but a bent cut coat hanger might do it.

I do notice that. My clips were burned in the fire though haha. But I'm sure I can rig up another way to pass the cable in that area (zip ties is usually a good default). Oh and thank you a lot for that video. And this confirms that mine is routed correctly. I have a new cable, might as well throw it on. Maybe it was damaged in the fire also? :idunno:

Anytime dude, hadn't thought of that but I think a 1000* gas/oil fire would definitely have the ability to stretch out the cable at least a few CM's which would throw everything out of wack. I'm sure you'll figure it out with some patience and composure.

Didn't even see this post. I will check that when I get the car home later. Thank you.

Well after installing my new hood latch, readjusting the hood strikers, playing with the tension of the cable (loose and tighter), i just cant figure it out. What I do know is that the driver side strike piece will not pop up like the other side causing the issue. I do not know why at all. I've done all I can think of. I just want my hood to function. :bangshead: :bangshead: :bangshead:
