Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
That would have been 2003, making me 18. What isn't shown in that video is that the car has 500 miles total on a basket case build that I had bought 4 weeks prior. 300 miles were accounted for on the ride a state away with Sean Mclane, and we were therefor 300 miles away from home on a fresh build that hadn't seen the road for 10 years, doing donuts on 10 year old tires. 10 years ago Sean's AAA card didn't have nearly the perks it has now! lol

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
I'm all about stick poking threads today as i entertain the POSSIBILITY i may be able to make a day of BBQ. This one needs updates.
Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
Quite a thread to read through!
Great work and a stunning car.
I'll apologise now for going off-subject but the info I'm going to ask isn't easy to come by.
I'm looking at creating a 2.6 20V Normally Aspirated engine for my Vanagon Tristar. By this time next year, it'll be 4WD (Syncro).
It's currently running a stock late 7A apart from exhaust (early bag-o-snakes headers which then leads to a 3 inch system) and intake which has a K&N Apollo.
We have fairly easy access to 2.5TDi 5 cylinder engines over here and I'm interested in building a 2.6 20V to get a bit more torque for the heavy van.
I have been told that I can use ABF pistons and rods to bolt straight into the 2.5TDi crank and then bolt the 20V head on top.
Looking at your photos, I can see that you've modified the block in a few places to accept the 20V head and that you have a modified cambelt tensioner system, is this for a different length timing belt? Can I use the 7A crank pulley on the 2.5TDi? Which cambelt should I use? Which head studs do you use?
Lots of questions etc... thank you in advance and keep up the good work

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
Our website has the Headbolts you will need. We use regular MLS head gaskets, with a modified tensioner system. We use 7a water pumps for added adjustability with a adjustable cam gear to help compensate for any block height issues. Yes, the 7a crank pulley can be used, we like to use the AAN TB, and the lists of modifications to the block is fairly extensive. If you shoot me an email at HankIroz at Irozmotorsport dot com, I'll send you an email with the needed modifications to make a tall deck work with a 20vt head. Be warned though, it is a pretty expensive list if you are paying somebody else to do it.
Glad to see you made it to the ProjectPad. Keep in touch.

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
did you make the custom axles with urS4/6 fronts or rears?
any tips on measuring etc for getting the length correct first try?

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
Those huge runners make me want to do ITB's on a very built N/A 07k. And then I'm like oh wait that's a lot of money for less than 400hp
Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
That was the first thing I thought when I saw the picture, haha.

Re: Hanks URQ 2.6L Autopsy
About time! ;-) (Like you've had nothing to do with yourself since the stroker went the way of the buffalo) Look forward to seeing your approach to this 07K urq.

Yeah but you won't need a beefy clutch, or a turbo, and an 01A could handle the torque just fine, so that is a lot of expense you WON'T be spending.
And think of all the weight you would save off of the nose by not having a turbo or intercooler or beefy-ass transmission!
If it's not obvious, I really like the idea of a high strung turbo-free 07K. There are so many benefits to not having to deal with drivetrain-crushing torque or the weight and space contraints of turbo plumbing. Plus, from an aesthetics standpoint, turbos kill too much of the engine sound and tend to make them sound dull and flat. The exhaust is muffled and you don't get any intake shriek to speak of.
