Ok, need some opinions from the O1E experts out there.
I’m basically looking to hybridize two trans. I have a very low mileage 95.5 wide first o1e in my race car.
And I’m contemplating picking up a 6 speed euro O1E with the longer TDI ratios and the trans cooler pump.
Now, this is what I want to know if I can do. I want to take the bellhousing, front pass diff/trans output cup, and oil pump gears as well as the tailshaft housing, all onto my wide first five speed from the 6.
The 6 speed will receive the 5 speed bellhousing, and tailshaft housing and the rest of the components from the 5 speed that got the oil pump.
Basically I was going to run a Tilton diff/trans cooler pump on a thermo switch. In an interest to simplify things I want to know if I can transfer all the “oil pump specific” parts from the 6 speed to the five speed. Ive read on some other forums how it IS possible to convert a 5 speed to a 6speed. That makes me feel pretty sure this is possible.
But, well, ya know, id prefer to find out if it works on not before I pull the trigger on an expensive euro trans.
Thanks for the help!!

i dont know about oil pump things.
what i do know is that the input shafts SHOULD stay with their respective cases/bellhousings. as well the front diffs.
both are wide first gears so no issues there. and the order of gears on the stack is 1-r2-3-4-6-5 with 5 being closest to the rear driveshaft output flange. so the 5 speed has nothing in that spot close to the center section.

yeah from the ETKA trolling ive done, it seems the five speeds use a small "spacer" to hold the spot where 6th would be. but to make a 5 into a 6, you need to replace the fifth gear and spacer with a 5 +6 gears. the 5th from a 5 is not the same as the 5th from a 6th.

Right. Ratio wise speaking. We machined a piece to fake it for that 6th place.
Re: Q's for the O1e experts out there, re:hybridizing
AFAIK you can retrofit the pump to any 01E box. You need to install the pump drive gear on the front diff.
Marc took these good photos of the assembly a few years back.

AWESOME!!!!
thanks for those pics, id most likely swap the entire front diff, trans to trans

diff would then most likely need new bearings for both trans's. preload setting and all.
we had to do new bearings when i put in the Wavetrac front diff. and set preload, blah blah.
that pump setup is pretty cool (no pun intended). i wonder if it would work with a Wavetrac? i wont be using mine anymore.....

Re: Q's for the O1e experts out there, re:hybridizing
what what?!?!?!?!? wanna sell me a wavetrac front if you aren't using it no more
I was planning oon using a thermo switched tilton dff cooler pump and tapping the o1e case, so the oem pump is a better solution but id do front lsd over oem pump if it came down to it
but wavetrac with oem pump would be TEEETS
