20vt B3 (The Bandit)
Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) And again...
I'm going to buy some cheapo ones, and make up some rings similar to mance mounts for them. Then see how well those hold up.
Have you had a chance to play with the new lathe much yet?

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) And again...
I tossed in OEM blue strut mounts on the 90q. Still readily available and well worth it. I forget the price but they werent too much more than cheap Meyle mounts.
Nice to see an update here.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) And again...
Thanks Mike, Ill have to look into those.
So I finally got around to putting in a couple new grounds. I attached a second ground to both the battery, and the engine. It sees to crank easier now, so I might try to and another yet.
After doing so, I took her out for a run, and noticed that my IAT reading was steady at 70F. Well, that cant be right. So I broke out the meter, and checked the sensor. Sure enough, as my luck would have it, I have eaten another sensor. I had this problem on my old eclipse too. I went through 7 on that damn thing. So I have another new sensor on the way now. Hopefully that will help with the constantly rich condition I am having right now.

Where does your hatred for the 20v stem from? I was going to go 20v, but found the 20v uber cheap, so went with that.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) NOT AGAIN!!!
This cant be real!! I drove the Bandit to work yesterday, and all seemed ok. When I got home, that fun noise was back in the trans.
I push the clutch in, and it stops, I let it back out, and there it is! I have already went through this, and know what will probably happen next. I really dont want to blow another trans. Is it possible I need to run a heavier oil to keep the stage3 clutch from kicking the trans's ass? I know I need to replace the output seals, so I after I have some funds transfered, I will get them ordered, and replace the gear oil again...

It's Spec clutch chatter, probably didn't need to pull the trans or do the TOB in the first place.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) NOT AGAIN!!!
I did on the second tans. The clip that hold the input shaft bearing on had somehow come out, and the input shaft walked about 1/4" into the tans. I still haven't opened it up to see what kind of damage it really did.
Its just kind if strange that it didn't make any niticable noise until yesterday. I'm going to replace the leaking seals in the trans, and refill it. Hopefully that fixes it.

I don't see how it would be clutch chatter when I'm talking sitting in a parking spot, with the clutch peddle pushed in, trans stops moving, and noise stops. Let the peddle out in neutral, trans starts moving again, and noise returns.

Well they obviously won't chatter when they're not moving. They chatter under no/light load while spinning.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) NOT AGAIN!!!
Is the noise kind of a random "rattle"... as if there's a bolt bouncing around inside the tranny or something?
Both of my cars that have had the 20V engine in them have done that... with two different 016 transmissions. I think it's the gears inside the tranny rattling around because of the engine's rather uneven idle. Pushing in the clutch stops it, and there's no odd noise when it's in gear.
If yours is doing the same thing, it's harmless.

Sorry, the only clutch chatter Im used to talking about it the chattering when it is partialy enguaged. You may be right though. A guy over on MG described it as a tiny little hammer on the flywheel, and that pretty much sounds right.

From everything I have heard, I guess its just somthing I will have to live with. Besides, I have other issues to deal with. The top end has developed a tap, the ISV doesnt seem to be working again, and I need to relocate the IAT(go ahead, say I told you so Shawn
). I have the bung for that made up, I just need to get the car to work, and get it welded on. Hopefully that will solve my overly rich idle after the sensor heats up. As for the ISV, I think its just time to replace it. Im thinking I might try to upgrade to the newer shutter style ones too."If you can't find one, make one"

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) coolant res. and V2.0 found
Lets try again, for the 3rd time. I keep haveing issues with my laptop. Time for a new one.
On sunday, I took my brother out for a joy ride in the bandit. It was his first time in the car, so I went a little heavy on the throttle. On the way back, the coolant light started flashing at me. I had just filled it a couple days earlier, so was a little confused. I knew I have having some coolant come out of the res. tank at hight RPM/boost, but not that bad. I babied it home, and popped the hood. Sure enough, the tank was well over half way empty. What I didnt understand was there really wasnt that much coolant in the engine bay like it had sprayed out. Is it really possible that I had that large of an air pocket in the system? After the light started to flash, I noticed that the temp gauge seemed to go down a little. It alwas ran a little on the high side. So Im a little confused, as I had bled the system multiple times, and have zero signs of a bad head gasket. Im going to have RS4tech do a CO test on the coolant, and see it I am some how getting exhaust in the coolant. Hopefully the new cap I ordered over a week ago shows up soon.
On a different note When RS4tech and I first talked about doing a swap in this car, we discoused a couple different engine options. Mainly 20vt, 20vt, AEB, TDI, and briefly the VR6. I had wanted to do a 20vt swap, but finding one local was not happening, and having one shipped in was just not worth it to me. So we went with my next choise, as I wanted to keep it somewhat correct under the hood, and got an easily found, he already knew where a donor car was, 20vt. Now that I have the engine rebuilt, running and driving(most of the time) I find out that a friend of a friend has a 3B puzzle at his parents he needs to move. SO I did the logical thing, and asked how much he would want for it. I was given a damn good price, and said yes. I figure I will take my sweet time building this engine, and do it right the first time. Upgrade what parts are known to be the downfall, have everything balanced, and upgraded, and put it together using VR gaskets. I am figuring on it talking around 2 years for me to build this engine, as I have a 5 year old that takes up most of my free time and funds. In the mean time, I will keep pounding away at the 'ol 20vt and see what kind of power I can get out of it. Should be fun.
And Taco, I WILL be getting some mounts from you soon. My density mounts arent faring too well these days

Lol. I wonder who called that one! Probably the guy that broke 3 in 400 miles lol.
You should consider trans mounts as well. Mine from 034 went completely to shit. Hell the ones in the rear are OEM and still intact!!!

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) Sensory fun...
Having the IAT sensor in the intake manifold seemed like the right thing to do. Well apparently I was wrong, as Shawn had told me. The the housing of the sensor being brass, the heat from the manifold itself tends to cause havoc with the sensor. I was seeing intake temps way higher than a I should have been, even though the car wasnt acting like it was that hot. Now as I was told to do before, I made up a small 3/8" pipe bung, and welded it to the pipe just bofore the TB. Here is how it looks, im not the greatest aluminum welder, but this came out pretty well.

Here is how the sensor will protrude into the air flow. I didnt want to have it hanging out the whole way, as there is realy no point in it. All that would do, at least I think, is cause more turbulance in the air flow with no benefit to the senor's reading.

The test fit sensor is not the one I will running. That is the old one that I managed to somehow ruin. The thermister is floating around inside the cage. I think it may be possible that the sensor got hot enough to soften the solder and let the vertical hanging thermister drop. Ohh... well... hopefully this fixes a couple tuning issues.

Re: 20vt B3 (The Bandit) Sensory fun...
I've had that break off on two of my GM air temp sensors. Sort of annoying... but I like your idea of putting that in the intake track vs the IM. Mine is also in the IM, and I've been toying with the idea of moving it elsewhere.

BTW, what sensor are you using and where did you get the weld on bung?
