Radiator fans won't come on still. Thermostat and thermoswitch or in route, but they might not be the answer.

So did it ever overheat? I sure hope it can get sorted out soon! I'm also willing to bet that Johnnyman would drive it home if it gets fixed over BBQ weekend.

My planned route if anyone wants to tag along:

-Depart Seattle around 12pm on Wednesday, 10/8 heading south on I5 until Eugene, OR. Overnight in Chemult, OR
-Wake up early and hit up Crater Lake and Lava Beds Nation Parks on the way to Reno on 10/9. Overnight in Reno.
-Depart Reno around 6am on 10/10 and head to Vegas via 95. Hoping to make it to IMS around 2pm.

-Depart Vegas on 10/13 and head west to Death Valley National Park and then north to overnight in Yosemite.
-Spend some more time in Yosemite the morning of 10/14 before heading back to Reno and stopping for the night.
-The next part depends on how my car is doing, but I may depart Reno and head west to the coast and take Highway 101 from the CA/OR border up to Northern OR stopping one more night along the way.

Alex if you, like myself, find the 95 to be the most boring drive on the planet, might I suggest this route:

Oh yes it's boring for sure, but we'll be wanting to make the best time on the way down so we've chosen the quickest route. We're doing the scenic route on the return trip.

Understandable. I do the drive every month or two, and that route is actually a little faster, if you can drive windy roads fast. Although I'm going to Minden, not Reno. So I save ~30-40 minutes there.

Hah, Justin, I'm doing the same thing to my roommates car. Definitely wont make it the 400 miles on one tank of e85.

Ok. Right now it's looking like I'll be heading up Friday night or Saturday morning and coming back Sunday. I'm not really able to take time off work so I'm stuck with that.

Hopefully nobody needs it but I brought along some specialized tools in case myself or others need them:
-power probe 3
-CIS fuel pressure tester
-multimeter with dwell/tach
-borescope (small enough to fit through sparkplug hole)

If anyone needs anything find me in Vegas

Coupe didn't get done. I wrote the rent check wrong last week and got $200 in late fees on the balance. I got a $75 ticket in the mail for crossing the Golden Gate Bridge last August. Just went to dinner in my girlfriend's car and she ran over this resulting in this:
Image

And for the final kick in the nuts, GTI starts missing again under low load from a fuel injector taking a dump:

$600 in unexpected expenses this week and a broken car later, BBQ is not going to happen this year. FML.
