It looks like it is a tooth off. That could definitely explain your funky lag. That wouldn't be enough to cause valve interference.

Excellent thanks. Now im banging my head on the wall trying to figure out what the bonehead mechanic was doing in there in the first place. This may sound stupid: would the cams be aligned exactly the same if only one was from a 7A and the other was from the 3B?? Yep looks stupid even while im typing it... Who in their right mind wouldn't put both cams in. I'll have a look at the ones in there now to see if they are even from the threeB.

Yes they would be. 20v motors are aligned the same way

Lift and duration are different on the 7A. I think it tightens up the LSA as well for more top end power iirc

theres a few sets for sale on motorgeek last time I checked. I havent been to the local yard in a while so Ill check this weekend if I dont have anything going on. Doubt that will be the case though. School and HPR have kept me pretty occupied these last few weeks

Cams are in great shape. Also finally the head was sent in yesterday afternoon and will hear more tomorrow on extent of refresh job.
The headgasket directions stress a *dry installation so im on the fence on the copper spray but I may do it anyway.

I did some reading and after seeing the dyno graph comparison compiled by 034motorsport, i've decided that putting both in is the only answer. More lift is apparent from just looking and comparing. Can't wait!

Taking 034 dyno sheets with a grain of salt is always a good idea. But am I reading right that you picked up 7a Cams? why am I struggling to read that.

Some people like the low end torque of the 3b cams, but I'm always bouncing off the rev limiter anyways so 7a cams are more of a preference for myself. You should like them.

Thats encouraging since the car will live primarily above 3k rpm if ican help it. I never knew you had them. I wouldnt think anything would need changed in vems either. Thanks for weighing in

You will need to retune fuel. Also, you will need to make sure the dizzy is lined up correctly.

thanks crhis. I guess I thought if the boost was regulated the same with VEMS, that not even the fuel would need tweaked. And for the dizzy, Im sure that entails lining up the points on the housing and rotor of the dizzy while the 2 machined cog circles are pointed at each other as when timing the cams.

Yep. The 7a cams will increase VE of the engine at high rpm, so it will need more fuel at the same boost. Otherwise, how would you make any power with cams? The idea is to get more air in. More air in = more fuel in

sounds like your average 20v to me. There is a process in getting those studs to stay put but it's not fun

So would I be throwing off my chipped ECU putting in 7A cams? Or does this only apply to speed-density (which I feel is the case)? I'm sure it could be optimized with a proper tune, but I'd have thought the MAF sensor would let it compensate for variances in the amount of air pulled in.

I heard that the stock maf was already maxed out on those chipsets. You could ask Dr. Mike on MG since he went that route. He and prodigy I believe both attested to noticeable results.
