Figure that while I wait for my crate o' goodies from IMS, I might as well get the car prepped and ready.

This will be a fairly ambitious phase, but will also close out the final phase of v1 on my build.

My punch list while I wait includes:

-- Install CGR/01E, 4kq propshaft and axle flanges, 034 centre bearing, new axles, JHM shifter
-- Swap front subframe with new/refurbed everything
-- Swap rear B5S4 calipers for D2A8, install Wilwood prop. valve, B490 vac assist swap
-- Drop rear subframe to seam weld and paint, install new tie rods, bushings, billet diff mount, etc.
-- Install KW v3 coilovers, Sachs top mounts and VAP MS1's
-- Pull ecu and harness in prep for VEMS
-- Eliminate redundant parts in the engine bay, like the carbon canister and distributor driver, etc.
-- Source Mercedes steering damper (a la FunkWeasel's build thread on MG) to replace while bay is empty

Have the 01A sold for a princely sum, so that's first on the list. Need to figure out how to disconnect the Procon10 and shift linkage, the rest should be cake.

Got 'er done :)

So the Procon10 was just a bolt on the d/s holding a bracket in friction, then it pulled off and the wires popped off. Done.

Regarding the shift linkage, it was one bolt that clamped the bracket tight and once released, it let go after about an inch of play. The rest was child's play. Easy peasy!!!!

Well the good news is you'll have lots of time to do all that stuff! Nice work on the 01a.

Haha, hopefully less time than I'll need ;) I start a big shutdown on nights next week, so I'll only have Sundays off for the next 8 weeks or so.

Hank sent me a tracking number for my parts that are off to Swain for coating. Also mentioned that the
Head is assembled, bottom end is being picked up from balance mid week. I'll start to put the bottom end together over the weekend most likely.

So with a little luck, my motor/turbo/manifolds/VEMS/fueling/hood will be on their way via freight within a week or so :D :D

Received confirmation of delivery at Swain on 10-Sept, so things will take a little longer than my prior estimates.

Had a good chat with Hank about my build the other day too. Bottom end is zero balanced and head is assembled, they just need to go together. When parts come back from Swain and CF hood arrives from Thailand, everything should be ready to crate up for shipment northward.

What remains to be seen is the method of shipment (freight or bro) and delivery date.

1st world problems!

Thanks for the props guys. They were a nice upgrade from the intended regular 225tt seats, for a couple hundred more than it would cost to buy them and ship cross-country or from abroad. So I'm pleased by that, and the fact I haggled the seller down >30% from his asking price.

Now I have to decide if I'm going to retrofit the set of b5s4 rears I have or just redo the originals in similar leather to the baseball seats.

Having the HPR mounts means I have everything I need to refurb the subframes, so might as well get busy.

My spare front subframe is mostly prepped and good to go. I'll have to find some time to get the outer seam welded. And do the same to the rear. Pretty impressed that Audi plug welded these frames from factory way back in the day.

I used a wire wheel to buff clean the metal's surface of any rust, paint or road grime. Then, using the STT process I stitch welded the seams together. I followed up with an abrasive disc on the grinder and smoothed out the welds.

Basically everything in the rear except for the differential is coming out for new parts. I'll keep the good old parts for spares.

Not yet, on both accounts. Been busy working close to home and adapting to day-to-day life in the city vs. working away and having copious amounts of free time during the week to get -ish done on business days.

I am excited to get some progress going on the subframes/mounts/suspension though, then I can focus on stripping out old/redundant parts.

Maybe a big crate from Sin City would help motivate a guy...

B5S4... the calipers are getting swapped for D2A8s to correct for the bleed nipple being upside down. I believe the B5 rotors fit fine.

How did you go about getting the caliper to bolt up? Or did it just bolt right in and everything fit?

B5A4q hubs, B5S4 calipers/carriers/rotors. The e-brake cable boss had to be massaged to fit/work and the calipers had to be held upside down to bleed.

The D2 calipers should just bolt right up and fit the same rotors.
