Re: Installed 7a cams, low boost

Post by Dutchbroracer »

I am having a horrible time trying to track down this problem. I've pressure tested the system and smoked the intake and all lines. No leaks found. I disconnected the wastegate signal line from the N75 valve. It boosted well past 12 PSI, I could aslo hold boost at 12 PSI. Here are some videos of what boost is doing. This only started happening after 7a cams were installed. Could a slightly incorrect timed cam cause this type of issue? any help would be sweet.

This is a 3rd to 4th gear change.

This is a 5th gear. It seems to hold boost fine in higher gears or until about 5k rpm.

Very strange how the boost is jumping up like that... are you sure the WGFV is oriented the right way? This is on a stock ECU?

Yes, stock ecu. I checked n75, it is indeed hooked up the correct way. I even performed all the output test and everything is working. I took the N75 valve out and manually tested it as well. The car just falls on its face in higher RPM...ive never had this much trouble with something like this before lol

I had a similar problem with a 4 cylinder 20 years ago after I changed the timing belt. It would start and run great but completely fell on its face at higher rpms to where I'd have to slow down for the power to come back. The cam was advanced 1 tooth. I don't know if this helps but it took a while for me to figure out. I know you said you were certain about the timing though.

So after pressure testing the system for the millionth time and finding nothing, I proceeded to set TDC and pull the valve cover. I set TDC according to bell housing window with "0" on flywheel. I set it dead nuts in the middle of the groove as it should be. I couldn't get a camera down there lol So her are some pictures of my other marks. The cam gear to valve mark seems ok. The cam marks are the ones Im unsure about. The intake looks slightly off. I couldn't get the camera flat with deck. Let me know what you guys think. thanks

Those cams don't look quite like they should. Might be a tooth off somewhere

I get that on cold start too...just exhaust soot (rich mixture on boost) coming out with the water that condenses in the exhaust as it cools off. Nothing to worry about.
