METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Does anyone have a metal throwout bearing for an 01e? Or have a known source to order a metal one?
Autohausaz has a bearing for $20 and I'm sure it's the same plastic one I have.
Autozone lists a metal one - but it's autozone...

Unfortunately I do not have a source.
I had to mention Autozone though. "Radiator #12345 - Features sturdy aluminum endcaps made of cheap plastic!"

Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Somehow Im almost more trusting of the $97 one from Autozone - if its metal like they describe than the $19 OEM version from AH AZ of which the plastic ring is already showing way too much wear for as little time as its been on the car
Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Kind of like those Nissens radiators where the photos show metal tanks that apparently exist only in someone's imagination?
Oh well, I guess without their help I'd never have had the experience of having a radiator *rust*...

Well low and behold, just ordered a metal one from 034.
Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Can anyone measure the height of the bearing? Interested in hydraulic bearing from tilton.

i'm sure you had a credit over there, from a return years ago...

Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Wasn't there a thread stating that all they do is remove the plastic from the std TOB?

Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
I melted three or four Sachs bearings so 034 made me a custom billet bearing. I think they found a source for a real metal bearing after all of that. I am curious to see what you get. I attribute my failures to either a bad run of bearings or a change that lowered the quality at Sachs

I'm not crazy http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/156421.phtml
Also, mention of using a 996 C2 bearing http://forums.quattroworld.com/allroad/ ... 1056.phtml

Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Well the bearing shipped monday so it'll be waiting for me when I get back from Jersey this weekend.
I have hopes this is a quality item from 034. The Autozone bearing was Metal and $99. The OEM plastic bearing from AutohausAz was $19 and I know THAT one is a POS already. The 034 bearing promised to be metal and was $47 if I remember correctly.
Crossing my fingers 'til Friday I guess, Im ready for this thing to be back on the road...

Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
I had a plastic one in my old V8 90Q. It was making noise after 3 months and less than 2k miles.
Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
You do know the one 034 sells isn't made from metal right? It's just metal faced. In fact there are reports of it making even more noise on the s2forum. The original one isn't even made from metal. Unless you're thinking of one from an 016 locker which is a completely different bearing. As far as the 034 bearing being just the stock one with the plastic removed I don't think that is the case either.

Clearly, we all just need to go hydraulic.

Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
So I guess I never followed up on this Jimmy.
I received the TO bearing from 034 and matched it up to the plastic one I removed (that I payed ~$100 for).
When comparing dimensions of the 034 bearing to the plastic faced one I was 'throwing out' (pun intended) I couldn't see how the plastic face being removed would have left me with what 034 sent me so Im calling BS on the claims that 034 is just removing the plastic bits.
"Key Features / Product Warranty
Metal faced clutch throw out bearing for 01A and 01E applications, Sachs now only offers a plastic faced unit that doesn't hold up to high clamping forces and heat of high performance clutches. Don't be fooled by companies that simply pop the plastic ring off and sell as a "metal face" bearing, what we offer is the real deal, manufactured and engineered with a full metal face from the start."
For $47 dollars I will continue to buy this part from 034.

Good to hear!
Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Well here is a question did you happen to note any pn#'s on the 034 metal faced bearing? Is it made by INA or just some random china part?

Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Now that I think about it, I actually had one of these in hand and it was INA from recollection. I couldn't run it because my plate clutch requires an adapter that was built for the sachs POS. That's why I have the Billet version in my car now.

I didn't, because I really didn't care.
I ordered the bearing and was happy with it when it arrived.

Re: METAL throwout bearing 01e source?
Got this part number from the guy at Autozone, This looks identical to the one I just got from 034. Not all metal, but at least an all metal face
