Well, thats the goal.. but there is quite a bit of work to do. The other difficulty is that Watkins Glen is that Monday so I may have to bring whatever I'm going to take to the track to //S fest.. and theres a big difference between getting a car on the road and having it track ready!

Well if you need a work space before during or after S//fest I'm only about 20 min. from where the fest will be this year. :wink: :wink:

NICE. Marc, I would like to see that intake pipe close up, as in on my car! electric PS pump...I think I may need to change mine. Woud like to see that set-up when you are done.

lol, well you just need to hang a filter off the back in your case.

All I did was take a piece of 3" schedule 40 pipe and hand it turned down on the lathe for a smooth fit into the intake.

electric PS pump...I think I may need to change mine. Woud like to see that set-up when you are done.


yep, I'll post up pictures once I've got it mounted up.

Hey Mark,

Just a thought and I am sure you already have a plan, but I was looking at my V8 tonight thinking...hmm it would be great to put the inlet and air filter up in the area where the heater lives behind the little bulkhead thing, plenty of access to nice cold air up top there and very easy plumbing. A lot of the miatas run a cold air intake up there as there is a nice low pressure zone there.

The other thing I thought was...hmm Marks doing electric PS, I gotta go check that out.

The third thing I thought was I could lend you my trailer to go to WG, I know it removes some of the stress, although as we discussed I would rather shake the thing down on the road for a month or sobefore putting it on the track.

Actually, the plumbing for that wouldn't be very simple at all, since I'd have to go from the front of the turbos backward toward the firewall then through holes I'd have to cut in the firewall for the filters to live back there.

Also there isn't necessarily much in the way of airflow back there. Here's where my filters are currently located, behind the headlights:

The only other plumbing difficulty becomes how to get the 3" intake pipe past the passenger side turbo. After looking at it I'm going to route the pipe through the inner fender liner up front and then down to the y-junction I'll be building for the post-intercooled air from the two turbos.

Hood vents (much like what Jim did on his car) would likely help feed air to the filters but I'll cross that bridge when the car is up and running :)

The other thing I thought was...hmm Marks doing electric PS, I gotta go check that out.


Its pretty neat, but to be honest it wouldn't have been that hard to keep the serpentine belt driven power steering. I just wanted to go electric because I think its cool, and it frees up a little space up in front of the engine.

You're tempting the hell out of me. Hold that thought on the trailer, we might need to talk about that for WG or future track events.. I was trailer shopping just a few minutes ago actually...

Man I really must have inhaled too many fumes last night at the shop - DOH DOH DOH. I totally forgot about turbos :bashtard: , if it was NA it would be cool though.

Wouldn't it be nice to flip the inlet manifold around though......

As for trailers if you are looking to buy one I would highly recommend paying the significant extra to buy an all aluminum one. Mine is steel and it weighs about 2800lbs, the aluminum ones weigh about 800 which makes a BIG difference in towing.

I am probably going to buy an enclosed one at some point in the future as it acts as a fabulous storage facility too, plus sun and rain shelter at the track.

When is the WG event? You are welcome to use mine as long as I am not using it at the same time :), can you wangle borrowing a tow vehicle? Youll need something with a class 3 hitch and preferable with a trailer brake controller.

the bumper has pretty decent vents in it for the sides, should be sufficient. Nice ducts though!

Yep, it'd be pretty easy if that were the case.

Its not too bad to run a pipe forward, but yeah.. making an adapter for the throttle body might have been easier.

Did you ever consider running one inlet in front (like nate did) and one in back? (know you'd need 2 tb's for that)

Or an 2.7tt or rs6 style Y pipe up & over the top of the IM?

Your big fat smooth pipe looks like it'll provide plenty of "bandwidth"

I like the Idea of running pipes up inside the fenderwells and popping them out into the heater area then a nice clean streight pipe through into the TB.

there is actually quite a bit of room behind the motor. That 3" mandrel bend clears very easily out the back, no real need to go into the firewall area. I will be using the fenderwell area though to get around the passenger side turbo.

I'd run just one in either case.. I decided to come in through the back because space is really tight up front, and it didn't seem like that big of a deal to run my intake pipe to the back of the motor.

spent the second half of thursday and all day today working on teh beast. The cooling system is now just about done :woowoo:

I also routed the water lines for the tubos but forgot to take pics.

Tomorrow's task will be to mount the new 12x12 coil cooler on the drivers side and perhaps mount up the S6 intercooler for the passenger side turbo.

time for another update. I spent the second half of yesterday working on the car. Added the oil cooler and lines and started to plumb the rest of the cooling lines to and from the expansion tank

I still need to add rubber insulated clamps under here but I'll get to that next time

B&M 12x12 80 bux(!!) at summit racing. I've heard people bitch about the quality but frankly I haven't had a problem (I run one on my wagon too). You just have to make sure to use a wrench to secure the socket on the oil cooler when spinning on the 1/2" NPT adapters, otherwise the metal will twist.
