I got to learn something from a mistake that wasnt mine for a change...I knew it would happen eventually (Sorry Mark;) )

you're welcome, I think
its all good, that just means you get to help me drag the car home for the rear main seal R&R, if you want, pretty please, with toluene on top? :-D
No problemo, Just LMK when you want to do it.
You should do it at Derek and Myk's though if you can get it on a lift it will be much easier to drop the gearbox.....or do you need to pull the whole shebang given all your other stuff in there?
Well, the goal is to have everything out of the garage by x-mas.
yes, replacing the rear main on the lift would be ideal, but the garage is really packed and the lift is in use most of the time so I think it makes more sense to just worry about it when I get it home where I'll be able to work on it at my own pace (I have to drive an hour to get to the shop).
H

Marc if you want to use the lift for a weekend no problem, just let me know and we'll move cars around.
Thats a nice offer and I might take you up on it. Although I might need your help without a tranny jack to help get the transmission out of the way with the car still in the air :-P

No problem I'll take it out for you but you're putting it back in
(ps all removing it take's is the car a couple feet off the ground and a couple junk tires for it to land on. In regards to putting back in ask Den for help, he gave me a hand and it slid right to the block first try. He must be good luck cuz that's a first for me in many tranny/clutch jobs)

Marc, check the pinouts on the TPS, I may have had an AAN TPS on my PT for V80, AAN pins out 1-3, PT is the opposite side of the connector. Swapping in a 3B/AAN TPS would be a quick fix assuming its still wired for the AAN.

HTH,
yah, Nate IM'd me this morning about that, I'll have to hit you up tomorrow for an order on a few things while I've got the tranny out to replace the rear main.

update:
got the car up on the lift on Saturday (thanks Myke!)

Got the tranny out with Dennis's help (thanks!)

around the time the tranny came out, Dennis was working on test-firing his waste oil burner (which is why that photo looks a bit smokey... the garage really filled up with quite a bit of smoke. Enough smoke in fact that the fire departmetn paid a visit :-o

rear main seal put up a good fight, but I won in the end :-D

engine in 'test fire' mode. I wanted to make sure ^2 that the new rear main wasn't gonna leak before I buttoned up the tranny.. so I rigged up the starter bolts to be able to crank over the motor without the trans in place. No leaks, w00t!

So I finished up the tranny job on Sunday.
Biggest thanks of all to Haydn (timmy) for helping me out AGAIN by towing the car back home for me along with the majority of my tools and equipment, I owe you huge buddy, thanks!
Looking forward to getting into some road tuning on this beastie
Oh and Nate, you were right on, I ended up re-pinning the TPS for pins 4, 5, and 6 instead of the AAN pins on 1,2, and 3.

update due, ja!
been busy with other projects, but I have the aim dash hooked up to power and ground, waiting on some pins from 034 to get the CAN wiring hooked up.
Tried to install an S6 clutch slave cylinder to replace the suicidal CQ slave, turns out while the slave body is the same, the rod is slightly different. Got a new slave from Chris @ force5, haven't had a chance to install it yet.
In the mean time, I've installed a power steering cooler (you know, with that copious amount of free space I have in the front end of the car
so ya, pics coming soon, should have the car ready for street tuning shortly :-D

update on the clutch slave saga..
with everything installed the clutch pedal is hard as a rock, no pedal travel at all.
This is not good.
I'm wondering if something in the throwout arm mechanism became dislodged during the install. I'm trying to get my digital camera in there so I can see what the problem might be. REALLY not too excited about pulling this tranny (again) :x

:stupid:
I broke a clutch pedal that day. Don't push too hard!

Haydn and Nate (the fellow that bought Haydn's 200) stopped by today for a second opinion on my clutch dilema (and to kick tires ).
I used Haydn's bullet cam to do a little lathroscopic exploratory surgery to see WTF was going on inside my tranny.
From the looks of it, we think the lower end of the clutch release fork is off its ball mounting, allowing it to be pushed too far away from the slave up top. Haydn put up a lil' video here:
http://homepage.mac.com/haydntaylor/iMovieTheater5.html
and here:

Haydn mentioned why not just drill an access plug into the bottom of the tranny? Starting to sound like an attractive option.. plus the tig welder is right there to weld the plug back in
