Apparently I hucinated posting this up earlier today...
I got all the stuff together to hopefully accomplish this ghetto snub linkage. Got the the 3/4-10 tap courtesy of the harbor freight rental program
got all the hardware at home Depot including a 1/2" bolt of 6" length that will go through the cross member and run under the IC and just above the now-lowered aux rad. Hoping to get mostly done tonight

Lol its not as bad as I thought it would be.
From an engineering at any point, you should never put a bolt in shear, but those are thick enough that from a redneck standpoint, it'll work just fine! Of course, you're only stopping movement in the up direction, but that's probably what's needed most anyway.

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Lol I suppose I mispoke when I said ghetto. Thanks for the compliment. Car drives GREAT with that mount solidified. I was concerned about shear and tearout for the bolts and sheet metal and that was the reason. I didn't use the thinner sheets I had leftover as well as the much thicker bolts. The 1/2" bolt might even give enough elastically to take some of the shock out of the worst of scenarios.
I've spoken with taco and he's agreed to help me market this garbage heap idea
No issues during the drive yesterday and the IC has just enough room behind it to prevent contacting the 3/4" bolt's head. Wasn't even any new vibrations!

Ya know, this treadstone has transformed the power of the 200. The turbo is working really well and the tune complements it all. Really happy with the power and delivery, not even mentioning it's pretty damn hot here at 80 F. I might go as far as to say it's super duper...

Threads can be vicious in metal/metal environments
my biggest fear was it actually failing and throwing my bolt and that sheet metal around violently and punching a hole in the new IC and maybe even being as bad as destroying belts. God forbid it take down the timing one. Solved!

Ya know I reviewed that log again and found it didn't really reflect 100% the context of the fuel or lean cut I observed. It was weird. Problem is I never found it other ran what I posted last. Not sure if that exerpt was in fact when it happened. Sorry to you (Chris likely lol).
I pulled my still nice plugs yesterday to swap in new ones and clean the olds. They were run pre- and post-op. The operation being the new IC
Reviewed them for detonation briefly and took to a mechanic friend who was a motorcycle black thumb (mad max reference) for almost 40 years. He said they looked PERFECT lol.
Last night after my look over of them, I added another .5 degrees timing at the very highest rpm's at high boost for a total of 2 degrees max. I was pretty confident they were fine but we t to see the friend to back up my findings.
Maybe I'll add another 10° and be done with it

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Two questions, will sparkplugs show detonation symptoms long before pistons start to pit? Can it occur on the piston tops and not on the plugs, or vice versa?
The million $$ question, when I put the new turbo in I lost the jolting "effect" of the cams engaging at the high rpm mark around 5k or 6k. Is it tuning or are the cams still working in that manner but it's manifesting differently. The surge in power always occurred when I was running the k24 at 27 psi (tapered to 18) with the 7a cams b4. Thoughts? Thanks

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
You shouldn't really be getting any surges in power delivery.
Detonation will absolutely show up on the plugs first. Inspect them with a magnifying glass. They must be fresh plugs though.

Interesting. When I first bought the 5k it also had that surge in power. Felt as though it was running top notch?¿
I ordered this large k&n to put on the vented BPV to save my motor when off throttle. Anyone seen a check valve large enough to prevent unfiltered air from entering at the BPV?

About how quickly am I gonna regret locating this here?
Note that the filter does not interfere with anything and there's no contact. Seemed good after a long drive yesterday. Even went back to the 034 BPV

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
Oh ya I'd say you're right. I was thinking about shielding it but it's already so wimpy sounding with the filter on there! No comparison to pre-filter. It was pretty intense before and I dare say it was louder than any of the BOV's that were SUPPOSED to be loud enough to scare people. Sounded like an industrial accident unleashing right next to your head before.

Re: Julian's '91 200 20vt
This might seem odd (like alot of my thought patterns) but I'm considering trying this to completely eliminate the possibility of air being sucked in to the BPV when at high rpm/off-throttle. I saw a research website linked too from an mr2 forum IIRC that said air being sucked in was a very real problem. I just don't like the muffled sound it's making now.

I guess I'd only have to worry about the forces completely dismantling the flapper and drawing it into the IC now

That's pretty normal. When the fan kicks in, there Is a major draw on the battery, which causes the alt to go into high load. I wouldn't be worried about it.
