Interesting thing happened today (other than driving the car of course :) ). A guy in a brand spankin' new 3.2L A3 DSG was driving around with his girlfriend looking at houses in the neighborhood and sees me working in the driveway. So he stops and comments on the fleet and we chat about cars for a bit. He pulls into the driveway and we get talking. He's a rep for Boston Acoustics (Eric Pomerleau in case anybody knows the guy?) super nice guy. So he keeps talking about how awesome the DSG is and how I have to drive it. Mm, OK! So he hands me the keys and I have to say flappy paddle DSG, FTMFW. Its definitely something I could see myself getting used to. Power delivery is super smooth and gear changes are just odd. you want to back out of the throttle when changing gears but he assured me to keep my foot in it and its an interesting effect, plenty of throttle on oversteer WHILE CHANGING GEARS! Pretty neat :)

Nice job Mark, now you just need all new front suspension bushes and rims ;)

Haha, i thought the same about the jeans :D

Is your rear muffler from an 1,3l VW Lupo?? Man, thats really a small thing - i mean i dont want a 4" rice muffler on it, but maybe a 2x 2,5" would be fine, wouldnt it?

What a cheat :bashtard:

Im wondering about the 90° angle for the side exhaust - not very powerfull, isnt it?
I remember that a "fluid mechanic" told me, instead of 1x 3" a 2x 2" would be much better from beginning to the end.
This v8 must be very loud, only 1 rearmuffler... :o

are the exhaust cut outs worth it. my friend has one on his g35 and when he opens it up its just mad loud

yes, thats definitely correct. But in order to go with a cutout I really needed to go down to a single pipe.

Not too bad actually, and there is more than one muffler. One muffler is hiding inside the pipe before the cutout, its a 'car chemistry' type insert. Sound is actually not bad at all. Lovely v8 rumble :)

Marc, what is the purpose of that 90* exhaust dump? Does it really flow more that way?

Btw, I think its time for a suspension rebuild/overhaul - time to lose that wimpy metal thing Audi calls "sway bar". :-)

It bypasses the rear muffler and provides a 3" from collector back exhaust flow for when the car is on boost only (the valve swings open under boost pressure). Allows for a quiet car driving around town and.. louder.. when on boost.

lots of suspension work needed. I'm starting with new control arm bushings and a tie rod end to get through inspection, then probably onto a coilover suspension of some type.. For that I'll be consulting with Haydn :)

Ok, its a crappy video (you're looking at my knee for most of it), but it gives you an idea of what the car sounds like noise wise from inside the car (window open). Normally aspirated (and choked by non spooling turbos at the moment) and NOT TUNED other than by ear because my LC-1's (yes, both of them) suck donkey nutz. Sam to the rescue tomorrow, he's letting me borrow his LM-1.

anyway, :vids:

DSG is pretty cool. Drove some of the new GTI's when they came out over a year ago and was more than impressed with how it acted and the car drove.

Nice you got the car out and about, looks awesome! :)

Just hooked up the turbos now that I've got a sane fuel map thanks to the loaner LM-1 from Sam :thanks:

Ohmyfvckinggod torque + boost ruuuuuuuuuuuuules

I need to take a break so as not to destroy my new clutch, me thinks.

Marc, I think you should bring that thing to Manchester on wednesday, or we should somehow link up so I can get a quick ride.
