More info on the Fluid Film appilcation, please! Is this intended to be a spray on rust inhibitor for the undercarriage?

FLuid film is awesome. It is a lanolin based rust inhibitor. It never drys out, its non-toxic, barely flamable and does not stink when you spray it. You can get it at the NAPA auto parts in VT, or online. It comes in spray cans or bulk. I use it all around the shop in place of something like wd-40. It has excellent lube qualities and doesnt harm rubber or paint.

I use it to condition my bare steel workbench. Just spray some on, wipe it around and buff it off. It leaves a non-sticky wax coating that beads water.

The application kit comes with wands that have 360 degree spay wands so you can feed it into rocker panels, frame rails, control arms, subframes etc. It coats everything in there and actually creeps into tight spots like pinch welds. It doesn't harden, so I plan to re-apply yearly. The regular nozzle just atomizes it and you can spray it like paint. Its super easy to spray on with that gun, and I think a gallon will do a whole car. Gallon is between $40 and $50.

You can read about it online, I am in love with the stuff. I use it on everything now and am super pleased. I have put so much damn work into fixing rust on my 90 (cutting and welding on it all day today) that I plan to be religious about keeping the rust away in the future.

I highly recommend getting a couple aerosol cans of it to try. You can also get a 360 degree flexible spray wand for the cans. Honestly, a can does not go very far and cost $10. It was not hard to justify $100 for the spray gun kit since I seem to use to much of it around the shop.

Nice, that's what I thought. We use it at work sometimes (depending on how cheap the company is) and it was highly recommended by the shop maintenance guy a few gigs ago. I strayed from it due to the cost (and tons of free Aero-Kroil to use as a penetrant) but I do have some kicking around the garage.

Fun fact, it works great as a water repellent on leather shoes/workboots haha.

I informed my boss this week that I will be taking roughly two weeks off in October next year. I've been wanting to do a cross country trip for years, and I really want to take my TDI quattro on a great journey. I thought about Alaska, but its sooo damn far. Looks like I will head out next year to Battle Born in Vegas, and maybe shoot over to southern California to camp for a night or so just to say I made it to the west coast.

The car is still on track for a first drive this winter some time. I plan on daily driving it and working out any and all bugs before next fall, when an epic road trip will ensue. Been trying to find a mini popup camper to pull behind it, but they are expensive and rare.

I am super excited to pull the trigger on this it was a toss up between a Europe trip or a road trip. Road trip in my own home built classic Audi won!

I'm fully planning on it! Barring unforeseen circumstances, there is no reason why this can't happen. I have plenty of time to get the car running and sorted by then.

This could end up being one epic Audi cross-country trip, but I'd feel weird being the only gasser... and having to make 2x as many fill stops

rear subframe and suspension installed finally!!

I finished all of the extensive sheet metal replacement in the rear quarter panel and trunk floor. That job was crazy. I have hundreds of hours into the rear of this car. Should have started with a better example, but it has been a great learning experience.

All new control arm bushings, ball joints, rear tie rods, koni adjustable shocks, ST springs, brake pads, lines and rotors, strut mounts, rear diff resealed, locking actuator repaired, HPR rear diff mount etc etc etc. I made the mistake of adding up the cost to refurb this rear subframe.....:barf:

Pretty stoked to see the car going back together instead of coming apart.

finally had the chance to do a little more work on this.

control arms do-over. Got a new set of 4kq front control arms for the back of the 90 from rock auto. Sold under the dorman name, chinease built, but actually pretty good quality. I did this so i could mount my 4kq front swaybar in the back of the 90. I burned out the bushings they came with and put another set of whiteline bushings in
Image

rear suspension finally buttoned up, new everything Image

Image

next up, rebuild front subframe and suspension

gutted
Image

spindles out and ready to be refurbed
