Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
T44 guys,
An upgrade to any 5k, 200, and most v8q is the 28mm sway bar from the v8q special order sport package. If you get one of these, the clamps needed to fit one are extremely hard to find.
After much searching, Corey Henkin was able to find a source for having them made in Germany. They are expensive, but there is a group buy going on, and the more people we get in on it, the better the price will be.
Current price is $99 each. It's a fair price for a low volume part like this.
Please show your support here or on Facebook if you are willing to commit.

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
I might be interested in a set of it wasn't too hard to get ahold of new 28mm bushings for those caps and the 28mm sway bar.

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
This is really great this is available and for a price that's realistic.
The one thing I'm fighting here (help me out)
Why on earth would anyone ever want to have a large swaybar (especially a 28mm!) in the FRONT of one of these under steering pigs? I'm sure the feeling of the front end being tighter or braces better is one point. However if we're talking about tracking/hot laps in the hood why would you want a piece that will lower your front end grip dramatically. Especially if there is nothing in the rear that would even be comparable. Straight line stability?

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
The bushings are easy to come by. The bars are not as easy, but it's much better than trying to find the clamps!
Mage, understeer induced by a stiffer front sway bar is a general rule. Depending on suspension geometry and circumstances, it can have the opposite effect. This is something that is often talked about by the BMW crowd. I must admit that I haven't done much research with respect to larger front sways on our particular platform, but I believe that when keeping the car relatively softly sprung it is beneficial. The V8 DTM cars did run anti-roll bars. Maybe not directly applicable, but it's an interesting point to note for now at least. Also, the sport package street-going V8qs did have these bars from the factory. I don't usually use this kind of logic to justify a modification, but I haven't really chosen to think about it too much and am willing to just try it out. Anything to combat body roll on my softly sprung (and staying that way) avant is welcome
If you follow the logic of stiffer front sway = more understeer, then maybe you should take your front sway off to give your t44 more neutral handling

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
Are you guys over the pond aware of these items produces by Albert of motorsport?
It's a similar billet arb/sway bar bracket but it moves the pivot slightly forward on the subframe giving ~1deg of extra castor on the front end improving steering feel.
Aimed at urs4/6 but I believe it's the same fitment on the c3/t44 front end.

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
C4 chassis swaybar mounts wont work with t44 swaybars and mounting points.
Would love if Albert at AK would make some of those camber swaybar mounts for the T44 though...

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
Sorry I just assumed they were the same with most other bits being swappable. It's the same design but I see now that the t44 mount is further forward. Although if the bracket is the same dimensions for mounting, ie hole spacing, it could work right?

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
The C4 mounts go parallel with the length of the car, the T44 mounts are kind of at a diagonal angle, I think this will throw all sorts of stuff on the front end off. Front swaybars quite different in dimensions between c4 and t44 unfortunately. Rear end stuff is practically identical, go figure.

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
Yes this is a vague response from you
When is the last day to order these?
The general rule is balance. If you are going outside the realm of the suspensions intended geometry then I'd agree that opposite influences could yield a better result.
But I'm not talking about that
I am talking about a T44 with flat control arms with a cup kit or the like.
Bmw crowd is a totally different chassis and is RwD. Thus I'd totally agree adding that bar in the front works great as it 'softens' the rear balance.
V8 DTM cars running this makes sense too. Im willing to bet that three V8 DTM cars had something bigger than the stock 26mm sway in the back. Or a higher spring rate in the rear.
In both of the cases above adding a cage or roll bar influences the balance. If you cage a car likely you will Find yourself with a heap of new oversteer. Adding strut tower braces and big front sway bars combat that.
In the end it probably does help the balance side to side since the chassis would rather shift its weight rather than retain it in its respective corner. (Someone make some chassis braces please?)
Case in point: I had a low low mk4 golf which had its front sway bar removed for clearance. I know it was wrong and I've moved on from that, but man you should have seen the turn in ability once it was gone. It was an absolute riot and gave great feedback on the edge (for what it was)
Maybe I will if I do an auto x

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
Removing the front sway is a blast, but I hated not having it there under really hard braking. It lead to lots of rear tire smoke due the rear having a big bar, and the front letting the car move all over the place. I ended up tossing a small bar on the front, best of both worlds.
Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
Indeed, I gave the only response I know how to in this situation. Noone can say whether or not the bigger bar will help because each setup and intended use is different. It may help in some but hurt in others.
All I wanted to do is make it known that these are available.
What do you think about the fact that the sport package v8qs came with the 28mm bar? It seems you conveniently left that one out of your response

Tried to capture that in the 'if it helps body roll maybe it feels better' response
Specifically to your V8 Sport Package- I bet it still plowed like a m'fer but I bet it also saved a few executives lives too. Calling something sport is marketing.

Haha yeah, but I don't think the Audi engineers just threw a thicker bar on there for no reason.

you're right the accountants did

Re: Group Buy: T44 28mm Sway Bar Clamps
Ha, but it makes no sense to spend the money to totally re-engineer something like a swaybar that most buyers probably had no idea was even included in that package or what a swaybar does!
Sorry man, I don't buy the idea that Audi put it there for no functional reason.
