The bend in the tie rods are to clear the 20vt downpipe, you generally don't have to worry about it with 20v. I didn't.

I was wondering about that but I will be making my own downpipe so have room to make it work.

Nice progress, Pat. Yes I am due for an update on mine. Hopefully soon. And yes, its a Wagner IM, and Iroz header/DP set up for twin scroll/QSV/EFR.
I've not done much since September or so when I decided I wanted(needed) the latest B3 rear subframe to work with my new rear tie rods (B3 late, long versions).
Then BBQ happened; then when I got back I found out I had to go to Germany for a few weeks for work, and I'm still there. Should be back this weekend.
Just before I left, I scoped a B3 20V in the local PnP lot which had a great condition late drivetrain on it but couldn't grab anything. Luckily nsimps came to the rescue and pulled the entire rear subframe and everything attached to it.
So I'll need to pull it all apart and refurbish the subframe so I can throw it in the car. That should get me pretty close to dropping this thing down on its wheels and getting it off the lift where it has lived for the last couple years.
The plan is to get the drivetrain/tranny all sorted and then figure out how the engine bay (and mostly the intake plumbing/intercooler) is going to be laid out.
I think we'll end up with pretty similar setups it sounds.
Curious, why LS2 coils instead of the 2.0T coil packs? It really is nice to get rid of the high voltage plug wires and they have been proven to support power way above your target.

Man I wish I had a PNP lot around with audis in it! That makes me jealous.
I appreciate the input, actually I don't know much about the advantages/disadvantages of different available coil set-ups. Sounds like should be looking into it.

Absolute German in Seattle is all Audi, VW, BMW, Merc, and occasionally Porsche. Most everyone who works the counter is an Audi nerd. It's 1.5 hours from Bham but they typically have at least a few B4 or older cars, ranging up to brand new (there was a 2015 RS5 there last week when I stopped in). It's at least worth checking out if you''re in the area.

Spent some time last night fiddling around with paint correction. Pulled the plastic cover off my car and I couldn't stand how bad it looks with what looks like tan paint overspray all over it.

The safest I've used is clay bar but it's going to take a long time as that stuff is cured.

If its overspray on glass/rubber, just use a acetone or solvent - not sure what would be the worry would be as long as you tape off any exposed paint.

After a long hiatus time to get back to work. I have got a few other projects wrapped up and out of the way and hopefully will be able to devote at least a little time to this car. I'm in no hurry to finish the project but I need to be making progress.
Started sanding the front and rear bumper inserts. These are the last few things I need to sand and paint.
Have around 3 hours into these. Discovered my new Dewalt Palm sander sucks

At this point the bumpers are completely sanded, used adhesion promoter then primed in 4:1 high build primer. I will find some time this week to sand them and get them sprayed.
The fenders are prepped, primed, sanded and ready for color.

Got a little bit of sanding done before work today. Sanding the primed bumpers with 320 just to knock them down smooth. Have one about 1/2 done will finish that one and get the other tomorrow morning.

Got the spot putty sanded with 400 grit, then everything gone over with red scotch brite to smooth it, wiped down, then sprayed with the first coat, sealer. Unfortunately it was too cold in my shop to spray (55) so there were a couple small runs and the sealer wasn't curing fast enough.
So I'm going to start early tomorrow and use a propane heater and maybe my waste oil heater in addition to the fireplace to get the shop hot enough for paint. Will have to sand those small runs in 1000 grit.

Looks great! Paint is such a PITA but so worth it when it turns out right. I used to have a big fan behind my wood stove and it helped heat the space quicker, worth a shot.

Well Alex has reminded me that I need to get my shit together and work on my car.
Not sure exactly where I left off but I started to re-flange my manifold to V-Band this morning to facilitate running the EFR turbo which is V-Band in/out.


I can't remember who makes this manifold as I got it from another forum member but the only issue fitting up is I had to shorten one stud and there is kind of a sequence for getting the manifold partway on then adding the nuts on two spots in the bottom- as the runners are so close to the stud.


Got it all snug and will leave this here for now until I start fabbing a downpipe.
Next is working on the suspension a bit.
