Yes, I've driven a couple. Several of my friends have them and occasionally they let me drive
Marc wrote:great build. I've always thought about a similar flooded/blown up supercar build. plenty of tasty options show up on copart and the like all the time.
got your email, will reply shortly.
Awesome Marc! Email or PM me a price on a complete setup including harness I may just go your route! What are the outputs for gauges options?
you've got a bunch of gauge options.
if you want to replace all of them with a tablet, vems will talk over bluetooth to any android device. see here:
if you are looking to keep some of your existing gauges you'll have a bit of digging to do to see what drives them. chances are good the Murci uses CAN protocol to drive a good number of them which vems doesn't yet support. so you'd have to drive the gauges analog like with a p259 output out of the vems to a more universal tach like an autometer unit (for instance).
Im not sure if the Murci went with the CAN yet, believe it or not the electronic system wasn't that complicated until Audi took them over and Audi didn't do much with the Murcielago other then just created wiring harness and some electronics until the Aventador came out and now they scream Audi they are very complex cars. The Murci is a dinosaur compared to the Aventador, however the Murci is still my favorite, steel chassis (not monocoque), wiring is simple, body design like no other!
Made a little headway today just messing with the stock ECU and wiring. After doing a little looking my RPM sensor (not sure what to call it goes on the tranny) anyway didn't know my transmission had a place for it. I found the location plugged it in and it fired right up on some ether. Im going to continue working with the stock ECU for a little bit now that it is running and see what I can do. Plan is to use one of the Murci fuel pumps to run the motor, the Murci came with 2 one for each fuel rail both putting out about 50-60 psi (hope that is enough) flow rate shouldn't be a problem I wouldn't think. Need to start eliminating a bunch of wires find the fuel pump relay on the audi harness, and go from there. Here is a youtube video I posted. Im sure ill be getting a bunch of haters for me doing this but doesn't bother me.
You could swap a Geo Metro engine for all I care, this is still a very cool project! I'll be following for sure, though I don't have much to add. Keep up the good work.

Reason I ask, is I work for Lamborghini. These things are insanely raw to drive, they make my 4k seem like a total luxury mobile. Should be a total blast to drive, I hope you decide to turbo it! That open header V8 sounds like a total beast, but even the Murcielago SV isn't enough power IMO.

Your my new BFF !!! which dealership do you work at and have anything to do with the parts dpt…?? I have a list I can send you
However I do agree they can quite unforgivable if given the opportunity. The raw acceleration with the AWD is just insane, no tire spin just sit back and launch. Don't get me wrong its pure adrenaline but its only a matter of time before something gets destroyed car, motor, tranny, clutch, etc. I'll just be happy with everyday sports car power with the exotic Murci look and try not to destroy something that cost almost as much as my house (my insurance company would not be happy about that). So yes tame twins will be in the future only after i get everything lined out, drivable & reliable.
So continuing here, started messing with the Murci fuel system today, drained the tank (been sitting for a few years) and noticed whatever was coming out of the tank wasn't gas, it was water so needless to say jumped both fuel pumps and they are both bad. This weeks plan it to pull the tank, machine a cap for pump 2 unit (cap it off) and see if I can get a new Audi pump to fit in the Murci 1 pump's place in the tank. Then continue going forward!
Also thanks for all the followers, help and support!
Not sure if you know, but guys are having great success with some aftermarket pumps. Since you plan to go bigger in the future, might as well only buy the pump once, right?
Bosch 044, 040 and 005 are all very well regarded, depending on the application.
Walbro as well, but I'm not sure what models.
I tend to like the Deatschwerks DW300, which is super affordable, makes next to no noise and flows very similar to an 044 (better at some points on the pump curve).
Marc @ EFI-X sells all of the above, as I recall.

Hit me up anytime man! I work for Lamborghini Las Vegas as the lead technician. It's a good gig, I love working on the cars... and driving them.

Hank mentioned your job there. Congrats! Not a bad gig at all!
Nice project. Totally dig it. Love the Murci body!
Back to the grind here, going to be slow on updates for a bit due to everything being in the mail right now. I went a head a decided to go with Marc's solution and picked up a VEMS (ships next week), went with another Murcielago fuel pump due to the fact this won't be the only car I do this swap too and there are 3 other guys doing the same thing, I don't want to pull every Murcielago tank and change the fuel pump. Trying to make this as straight forward as possible. This is just the pilot or beta car I guess we could call it.. Still looking for a 01E transmission reasonable as well. I'll post some pictures up soon of the car and what all I've done to it since owning it the last year and half to keep the thread active.
Also if anybody is needing any A8 body/interior parts I have a complete car minus wiring motor/tranny. Wiring I'll let go after the swap is complete, might need some connectors or something.
Im still working on finding transmission, I have a few leads im working. the plan was to go with a 6 speed Quatto 01E and have it welded but they are 33" long and will come out where my muffler is supposed to be. The 5 speed I have is 24" I need to try to find something that is 24"-30" long. Sorry for the crappy pictures but I had to moc up the panels to see where everything will come out.
Also what are my cable shifter options since these were designed to be shifted from behind?
You can can also add a 6th gear (TDI) to a 5sp 01e. Just takes a bit of time and work. Could be a good way to make use of a cheap trans for now and upgrade over time.
In fact, you'd probably do well to buy the JHM 01e trans video to learn about the innards of the trans sooner than later.

Not much to update… I pulled the Auto Transmission wires from the engine harness installed the down pipes & O2's, removed all of the evap system from the Murcielago and the 4.2 and ran the engine harness to the other side of the motor to be ready when the VEMS gets here. Fuel pump should be here this week also ordered radiators.
Aloso sorry for the upside down pictures not sure whats going on there...
Time for an update, purchased a used rollback to transport the car around since it's so wide it won't fit on a car hauler and got sick of paying a wrecker everytime I needed to take it somewhere. Took it and got it aligned earlier in the week. Alos got the muffler all setup and mounted (have pictures of that as well but in my computer not my phone here). Picked up my LP670 front fenders to go with my LP670 bumper. Still working on getting other LP670 parts here from various places. Now rolls, has brakes, etc.
Finally got my VEMS in from Marc with the adapter harness and im very impressed with the quality of his work and the setup...! Really glad I went this route just hope I can get it all figured out! Currently trying to figure out where these wires need to go on the engine harness. Hopefully I can find a diagram or a good link to figure it out. Still working on finding a 01E transmission through Marc that will fit.
Lastly working on the fuel pump issue. I purchased a Bosch 044 type fuel pump and trying to adapt it to the original Murci filter and it's proving to be a little of a pain. I just went and ordered a bunch of metric fittings to make it work should be here next week. I'll post more pictures of this when I recieve some fittings.
