No, was it 2300 to get all that work done on a tranny you already purchased or 2300 for a complete tranny custom made?

I've already had to turn down a few emails and PM's from people wanting the same trans for the same price. I unfortunately cannot make that same deal again.

As far as horsepower rating goes, I've got a box behind a 600hp coupe tootling around Illinois somewhere and have heard no issues with it. The worlds fastest S4 in Europe also uses the same configuration (not my trans) and has lived up to some insane amount of power (900+)

Marc, after looking over the two tranny's this seems to be exaclty what you need. Looks like you put some time into this before you placed the order.

I have a 01E kicking dust here....should I sell that and buy a damaged 01E and ship it to him?

Goal is to get the new transmission installed this weekend since waterfest is uh.. next weekend :-P

I re-did the shift linkages and installed the JHM spherical bearing kit on the shift rod:

Image

Last time I installed the clutch I found that the alignment tool would bend a bit and ever so slightly misalign the clutch when tightening down the pressure plate. My dead 01A donated its main shaft for a better tool :-D

New clutch (got oil from the tranny seal failing on the last one :( SouthBend warrantied it anyway!!!!! Unbelievable support from those guys):

In order for the stabilizer rod to clear the body I needed to create some room in the tunnel. I tried to bend in the steel with my air hammer but ended up breaking the surface so I figured in for a penny in for a pound and just cut out a section and welded in a raised 'cap' to make room:

Hopefully I'll have the new tranny in place tomorrow. :woowoo:

I have enough to put the car together, I'll just be missing two bolts which I'll install when they come in.

Looking good Marc.So its confirmed that the S2 and 7A coupe used different transmission tunnels?Interesting to know this now.

A good friend of mine Aaron (speeding-G60) will probably be asking you some questions about this as he wants to do the 01E into the Coupe swap.

Well today Mark & I arranged to bump into each other. The reason for this meeting was to beat the snot out of a bunch of cars owned by Audi. We both attended the 9:30am time slot of the 'Audi Experience at Loudon NHMS.

What other car company gives you the opportunity to beat on thier brand new 2009 model in a full on autocross for free, not only that, they bring in the competitions cars so you can try them all back to back, Mercedes C300 4matic, Lexus IS250 AWD and the BMW 328IX. So after 45 minutes of non stop autocross, they then take us over to the NHMS road course. We helmet up, climb into more 2009 A4's, and head out onto the track for a follow the leader session, about 6 laps, then another 6. The speeds were not full on track day speeds but they were allowing us to get up to 100mph by the turn in for turn 1, and 75mph up over turn 9 which is amazing really. And all of this for FREE. Fabulous!

Anyway after all that fun Mark and I swapped cars, he took my Miata.......and I took his Coupe :)

We headed from NHMS south for about 20 miles and swapped back at the Liquor store on 93S below Concord.

I have to say that Marks car is very awesome! It is fabulously drivable down low, it makes so much torque right from 1000rpm it is effortless. The chassis, steering, brakes & suspension (KW V3) are really nice too. But man when you get that thing in 2nd gear and let rip up an on ramp, the minor pause while the turbos spool up from gentle hiss to jet fighter on acid, coupled wiht the mental acceleration is quite phenomenal!!!!! Hit 3rd gear at the limiter and keep in it and it just gets better :)

I am still grinning 8 hours later.

The only down side is that now I am really upset that my project is not in my garage so I can work on it...soon though.

Thanks again Mark, and I cannot wait to feel the difference when the next phase is complete (plus it will be nice to not get lung cancer when I am following you trying to keep up ;) )

:woowoo: :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

lol, thanks man!

As Haydn mentioned we both hit up the Audi Driving Experience event. I made the mistake of obeying the officials and leaving ESP on for the autocross portion of the event which really ruined my opinion of the A4. A little understeer around a corner, floor it, wait wait wait wait THERES the power. Annoying.

Under the settings I was running the BMW seemed to perform better in the autox course. I found it interesting that all the drivers that wound up driving the BMW last were gasked to drive the audi one more time, at least they know who the competition is :)

I'd definitely do it again, props to audi for having the balls to throw the keys to brand new cars to a bunch of strangers and charge nothing.
In fairness though I think the Audi makes a

Now you know how I feel :D

We are leaving WF and Marc is like Torque? No problem....goes from 1st to 3rd car picks up slowly then he is magically selects 6th...
in 6th gear it felt like being in a stock A4 until 2000 rpm's then bam...lurches forward.

However the best feeling was going down the highway and Marc balancing the accel pedal to get the Tial BOV to hit off twice in less than a second.

Thats where my grin is :D

Nice. I did that same thing a week ago here in Chicago. I liked the new A4 but they let us pick anythhing from Audi's line up short of an R8 afterwards and do more laps. I got into new TT....that was amazing ride.

Haydn, could you comment a bit more about that KW suspension....compare maybe to how your Miata drives? I know, 2 different beasts, but I'd like to hear...tia.
