Haha not quite! I was playing in an ultimate tournament in Tallahassee, and I dove (rather ambitiously) at full sprint to catch the disc, with zero regard as to how I landed.

Supposedly LSU got it all on film, but I've yet to see it. The most disappointing part of it all is that I dropped the disc. :) In any case, I'm having surgery later this afternoon to get me all straightened out, and I'll be able to use the arm again in 8 weeks or so.

My thoughts exactly! I may now have the least ambitious Carlisle goal ever, which is to get it washed by then, and maybe fix my leaking PS pump. Maybe.

Electrolysis is magic!!

Image

I remember learning about the process back in AP Chem several years ago, and I really wanted to chrome-plate something at the time. Never got around to it, but this was just as satisfying.

Anyways, I hooked up two battery chargers to the upright and a sacrificial brake rotor. After 4 hours of laborious Netflix watching, I came out to find this delicious soup:

Image

Seriously, this has to be one the most satisfying things I've done. Immediately after supplying the system with 2A, you could see hydrogen bubbles start to stream off the upright. The once-clear alkali solution slowly turns Mars red, and out comes a very rust-free piece after doing basically nothing and paying ~$0.

What little rust is left after just falls off with a scotch-brite pad. There's a couple of spots on the ends and back face that still need it, but that's only because the electric field is weaker at those points.

In other news, I was gonna have the hubs pressed out and turned down by a friend of mine, but he broke his arm a week after I broke my collarbone. People are breaking down more than my car is!

After finding out about elyctrolysis baths a year or two ago from s2forum, I'm super pumped to get set up & utilize the process. Seems to be less logistically and cost and intensive than media blasting, so why not give it a shot?

I'm honored to have you grace my thread, Dan! I followed your threads back on MG for a while. Always very impressed! I can only assume our mutual collarbone experience means I'm now on track to owning a fleet of sweet cars, complete with models, yeah?

In any case, for those considering doing electrolysis in the future (which, again, highly recommended), it's super easy. However, one thing worth mentioning is that you'll want to take measures to avoid hydrogen embrittlement. That is, internal stress of the steel due to the diffusion of hydrogen into the workpiece, which could lead to premature failure.

This is only a concern for certain kinds of steel, but it should definitely be a consideration for structural pieces, such as strut housings. It can be mitigated by using lower voltages (e.g. 12V) to keep the diffusion closer to the surface, followed by heating the piece in an oven at ~400F for an hour or so to liberate any hydrogen under the surface. Just don't tell your spouse what you need the oven for. ;)

Seriously though - hope it's ok. I'd be surprised if it got dented... the metal on these things are pretty heavy....

Good news!! You're right! Some neighboring cars didn't fair so well, but the combination of light foliage cover and the tank armor T44's use for sheet metal left nary a single visible dent. Only at a really shallow angle can you see anything - and that's if you're looking for it

Lol, about that...

I may have blown my turbo, like, 30 minutes ago. :) I was playing around with a Fiesta ST I ran into on the way home, and the 200 was pulling particularly well! I gave the Fiesta driver the  and pulled off to take my turn. I gave a part throttle pull up a hill and suddenly heard the unmistakable unscheduled visit to the dentist. Crap. Once it cools down, I'm gonna have a look and see how much play the turbo's got now.

It wouldn't be a Carlisle story without the rush to get it ready, though! For anyone who has ordered from G-Pop Shop, do you know how quickly they ship out an order? I'm gonna give them a call first thing tomorrow and see how fast they can get a K24 rebuild kit to me.

Like an idiot, I donated my spare K24 to a local guy with a 20vt literally two weeks ago.

put out an APB and see if you can get a good used k24 shipped overnight from someone. I think thats your best bet to get it on the road ASAP. Good luck. Maybe we will see you down there. I'm planning on coming with a build that has 30 miles on it, and my road trip partner melted a massive hole in a piston two days ago. Pressure on!

Lol if you can make it, I have no excuse!

I've been making calls all morning. I'm having a rebuild kit overnighted to Knoxville. I talked to a bunch of car dudes in the area to see if there's anyone who could balance the assembly locally, but found nothing. One guy came through and informed me of a well-reviewed shop that can do it in Nashville, though. I gave them a call and they said they can have it balanced within the day! If all goes according to plan, I should have a fresh-rebuilt K24 in the car by Tuesday.
