I took my rear exhaust off to replace the factory double exhaust clamp sleaves yesterday. It's staying off temporarily so I can do a dual side-exit setup with flex pipes :D soooo loud!

However I wanted to also see if the muffler was stifling the backfiring somehow. And it's not so idk anymore.

Diary of a straight-piped audi 20vt (and why I'm going dual 2" cutouts shortly :D :

I have found that the strange sounding idle disappears when the rear exhaust gets removed. Also idle control is smoother and.. the sound is sexual! 9 degrees of timing produces the crackling I wanted on decel more than any other amount of timing as well.

Going cutouts. The End

Hmm interesting findings. You should demonstrate with vids. But find a new cameraman first.

I knew sombody would ask haha. 5k needs TB jobber, I have no idea of hp on 200, 200 won't have cutouts for another month (yes Chinese shipper!) and finally this strange fueling anomaly between 80 and 140 kPa and 2800 and 3700 rpm. It's weird but I guess the engine VE has just increased there from straight pipes?

That fuel anomaly is present in a lot of maps on our cars. I'm not sure what causes it, but it's nothing to worry about. Just tune it correctly there. It should need more fuel in that region, all the way to the top of the map... but your turbo probably never gets there at that RPM.

Call up QTP when your Chinese cutouts fail ;)

They used to have some problems, but they made a design change a few years ago which seems to have cleared that up. Mine has been good for the year it's been on. Through all the salt, mud, and water I can throw at it.

Lol thanks I'll check them out. I basically will do as my brother does with his m3 cutout and leave them partially open all the time and leave it. Taking off from a light makes my brain swell :D

Have only seen one guy walking his dog shake his head no in response to my WOT pull from a light with straight pipes. I think he is a butt head if he sees this though. I'll speak poorly of his mother if I see him again :l

Anyway nobody seems to complain on the street so it must sound pretty raunchy in a nice way :)

ok so for the past year I've been grinning at all the tow trucks saying to myself "not today bitch ;)" but TODAY was their day... I had my usual retarded camera person attempt to video me doing donuts and they only got audio because they left the gd lense cap on... ffs! After that I said screw it and told them to get in so I could "flee" the scene and when I got to the stop sign near by and went out of gear to stop, the fan hit full blast and stalled the motor as I'm still working out that part of the idle control (apparently). Tried to restart for 3 hours lol. Came to find that my secondary trigger never shows on the analyzing screen.

Yes, I have the timing pin on the FW still.
Yes, same goes for all ring gear teeth.
Yes, I switched out sensor assemblies with known working ones.
Yes, it never worked.
Yes, I have no fecking idea :)

So let's assume that the sensors are good and all wiring connections were correct. Is this a harness melting problem or a vems circuit failure possibly?

BTDT'S?

I guess I'll do harness continuity tests tomorrow

Ahhh SHIT!! My dizzy shaft is spinning relatively free. Dammit! Time to yank it out and observe the carnage :bangshead:
It even has the brass gear :wah:

The only upsides here are:
The 3B intake camshaft is going back in and it's supposedly more aggressive
And I can finally replace my lifters

Other than that this shit sucks!

Wut. That sucks man! It gives me flashbacks to when I snapped a 7A cam in a very similar manner, but it was during install. I wonder how that happened. Did the dizzy bind with anything to keep it from spinning freely?

Actually, I'm now wondering if the plastic dizzy gear was originally intended to be a designated failure point, since that would be far cheaper to replace than a cam in such an event. In any case, I'm glad it sheared off cleanly and the piece didn't cause any permanent damage to the head.

I totally agree on all your points. I would figure the plastic gear is plastic for that reason. I don't think I over revved or anything. Probably held under 5k rpm most of the time. As of now I'll be putting my new lifters in I guess. Probably a new cam chain too

It'd probably be okay, but for the risk involved with a broken chain, I'd have no issue shelling out a bit more to buy from a known supplier http://www.efiexpress.com/catalog/produ ... ucts_id=77
