More yay when it gets some TLC. I may grab the Recaro out of 000292 tonight and put that in. Tomorrow planning on getting the car officially in my name. It is on my insurance. Damn thing is actually slightly more expensive to insure than the Q7's.

Titled and licensed. Drove it to work after getting the plates yesterday and drove it in to work today as well. It's fun, mostly because the noise it makes when you step on throttle. I've got a line on a sedan 01A that isn't too far away for a good price, so at some point that will find it's way in the car. Lots of stuff will get transferred over from 000292. I got the Recaro cleaned, but I forgot that I never mounted the switch box, it just dangles. So I'll get a couple tabs welded on so it's a bit more finished looking. Tomorrow I'm heading out to see the paint/body guy to have him look at the problem areas (roof & C-pillars, driver side rear quarter/fender). Getting 000292's fenders, hood, doors, hatch, bumpers, lights (F&R) and sunroof panel swapped over will make a huge difference. Also looking at getting the windshield replaced, from the looks of it the current replacement was done poorly and some leaks were chased. The pillar trim took the brunt of the chasing, passenger side looks to be sealed to the glass semi-permanently.

My big problem right now is that I cannot find my Bentley manual to look up how some of the stuff comes apart. I guess when you don't need something for 12+ years you can loose track of it...

sweet, I just picked up a 1990 V8 that needs some love.
I know I need door pulls and a rear seat for interior.

Might need injectors or a fuel pump if I cant get it running right after replacing the fuel filter.

Its a 3.6 though not a 4.2

I have a velour comfort stuff from my old 5kq, but otherwise no body stuff for a T44 based chassis anymore. The early engine related stuff I have is all PT (3.6L) related. I may have a fuel pump though? Now that I think about it...

So...I just bought another pair of Brembo calipers off fleabay. Plan is to make a simple adapter to fit them up using Wilwood two-piece rotors, using one of their pre-made hats (undrilled). I have a shop literally right down the street from my office that can make all the hardware for me. Cost of the calipers was $142 with shipping, they are sized for 330x28 rotors, I plan on running 310x28 as that should fit under my wheels (barely). More to come on the suspension as well. Figured some items out, not good ones, on 000292's suspension. All fixable, but it explains lots of things...

Last time I checked, the tender spring should be separated from the main spring by a "slider" or intermediate seat. The tender should then be topped by an upper spring seat. On 000292, T.C. had assembled the springs as follows: lower spring seat, main spring, upper spring seat, tender spring, upper strut mount. This would explain the "spring boing" sound I had during the ~50k miles I put on the suspension, and why the tender springs are so destroyed (no powder coat left on them). So, I'll be ordering new tender springs to go with the intermediate/sliders/whatever you want to call them that are already en route. Fleabay Brembos supposedly shipped today.

Calipers came in, should work just fine over 310x28 rotors. Adapter should be pretty straight forward, I just have to work out the rotor hat (Wilwood has many off the shelf hats that just need the bolt patter milled in an a hub-centric spacer inserted). I believe the calipers even have the same port size for the flex line, pads even have wear sensors that I can adapt to the old Audi wiring (versus the new Audi wiring that these have). Brake pad size is similar to the G60, though I have not measured the two pads. These have four smaller pistons than the two large pistons of the G60's, but since I'm adding 17mm of rotor radius I should end up with better braking and most certainly better heat management.

New Hypercoil tenders came in, as did Eibach "spacers" to go between the main and tender springs, as it should have been from the beginning. I have to clean the interior out of parts so I can pull the actual interior, so I can get the rear strut nut removed. Once I do that, I can swap springs around on the bench and get them in the "new" car and transform it big time.

Recaro from 000292 is in as of last night. I never mounted the switch box, so I did that before dropping it in. I found some scrap aluminum in the drops bin at work, so I'm going to use that to check the caliper brackets I have drawn up. Also, in an effort to allow heat to escape the engine compartment, I think I am going to install 1/4" spacers between the hood hinges and hood. I think I found just enough aluminum plate from the drops bin to do that as well.

I had time tonight to mock up the caliper adapter out of some of the scrap aluminum. I have a final design set, so I'll draw it up and get it ready for the local machine shop. I do need to call Wilwood and double check one dimension on the rotor ring before I have the adapter machined.

It looks like, based on my 17x8 Voxx wheel, that my 16x7 wheel will have plenty of clearance.

Also may look into running studs. I borrowed four of the M14 studs from my Adapt-it bolt pattern adapters from my V8q to make mocking the brakes up easier. Man is that nice to not fight the wheel/rotor/wheel bolt...

I talked to Wilwood this afternoon...

Rotors, hats, rotor/hat bolt kits and caliper adapters are all ordered. The bolt kits are back-ordered until 10/20. That sucks. I'll have under $800 in this setup once it's on the car. If I would have had to buy pads too, it would have been around $800. Not too shabby...

Rotors and hats arrived today. I'll get them marked up for the bolt pattern and center bore diameter, then dropped off at the machine shop on Monday. Then it will be a waiting game for the bolts.

Hats were dropped off this morning, and I got a shipping notification on the hat bolts from Wilwood.

Then I got hit in the face with a 2.5" BSPP aluminum hose coupling, which resulted in two lacerations. Almost need stitches. Also, the 4.2 Q7 may have puked the bank 2 intake cam adjuster, but it never made any funny noises and started and idled fine last night when I ran it.

Almost forgot...rivets arrived from Audi yesterday, so I can continue getting stuff ready for a new windshield (and hopefully fixing the leak Ben couldn't find).
