CQ HVAC delete

Post by MikeB25 »

I'm AAN swapping a '90 CQ and converting to primarily track use so I will be removing the A/C. If I remove this harness altogether (the bottom part):

will there be any unintended consequences?

Secondly, I want to simplify the HVAC module as much as possible, starting with removing the evaporator, possibly even removing the automatic control. Has anybody ever adapted a different type of actuator to the various flapper doors on the HVAC module, like a stepper motor or simple electric actuator so I could get rid of most of the other harness?

How about removing all of the factory stuff and then running a universal heater box for defrost?

I'm also considering that option. I'm not sure if it will fit as nicely as the factory unit but it looks pretty compact. I need to decide if I want to fabricate ducting or fabricate control cables/mounts.

I've done what I think was later b4 90 manual climate control/heater box swap into a CQ in the past with a friend. Is that not an option? I don't remember how that affected wiring harnesses, but it makes vent actuation simple.

Definitely an option. If I can find someone that is selling the manual control and heater box, or wants to trade for an automatic unit, that is the route I would go. It would be ideal if the manual controls could be adapted to my auto heater box but it's not clear if that would work.

Hi Mike

I think I responded to this on facebook the other day.

This is the thread for the guy who used a cabriolet rear window demister on the front screen in his track car, well worth a read.
