drivers front door

pass front, don't mind the fender hanging

shaved trunk

pass rear

pass rear flare area. the flare came out better then i thought to be honest. considering how it was heated and beat to fiddle sticks to get out that far, then bonded on top to get smooth. the area where the top of the flare goes back into the rear quarter seems to not have come out that well, but i can fix that now that i SEE it

drivers rear flare, flare came out mint again, even the part where it flows back into the quarter. behind it though not so much. I'm not sure how many have followed from the very beginning, but when i first got the car that area and right above the rear triangle glass, was pretty destroyed. perhaps a small tree. but to me it seemed more like a baseball bat, and then some kicking/punching on the rear quarter, needless to say, that quarter is gonna need some more body filler as well.

the shaved centers of the door kinda throw me off, they are smooth, but just looked a little funky to me. upon digging round though is seems as if they are on par looks wise to one my favorite 'shaved door' cars ever.

so i guess all it all, the door shaving turned out pretty well. my second attempt ever at priming, considering it a win.

Looks like good progress. I love and hate primer, because just when you think you are done, it reveals all of the flaws and kicks you in the nuts. When I filled my trunk holes, I just glued a metal plate to the inside of the trunk and then body filler over it. I figured I had a better chance at warping the metal with a welder than I do the body filler cracking. I am still rocking the spoiler so i only filled the two center holes.

i actually took a hole saw and cut a circle outta some spare fenders i had from last year. then tacked it in there from inside the trunk. then fibre haired it, sanded, then bondo. it looks good from outside, i wouldn't say I'm proud of it once you pop the trunk though and look, lol. and thanks! it looks good from outside, def the smoother then i thought it would be, especially on the trunk lid.

you happen to have any close ups of your door channels Jim? i feel like mine came out well aside from a few spots where it seems i didn't feather the old paint down enough to flow into the almost bare metal on the door channel area. i feel like if i look at mine i can SEE where the bottom of the channel used to be, then i look at the pictures of that one car i posted and i see the same thing. so i think maybe its just my mind KNOWING what lies under there playing tricks on me.

ya its a damn shame that the car got hit by someone else stupid ass. and i will agree, that was one of the first cars i saw with shaved doors and i said then and there that i wanted to do that.

Re: 600+whp 4cyl20v90Q...car primed
Mine look just like yours. It bothered me for 30 seconds until I decided it would take way to much time to feather it all and make it totally smooth. I don't have the time or the tools to pull that one off. I like that it adds a slightly different look. Use the edges as a guide and be done with it

Re: 600+whp 4cyl20v90Q...car primed
now what do you guys normally do once in this position and needing to do more bodywork? you sand the area that needs to be fixed completely down to metal/bondo surface, then fix, then reprime and blend the surrounding area? or can i just scuff the effected areas and go to work then prime over?

Go right over the top, no point in going back to bare metal. I find that having a couple different colors of primer (or bondo) make it easier to see your highs and lows.

Sweet. I'll scuff the areas i need to work and go to town then

Re: 600+whp 4cyl20v90Q...car primed
Use guide coats - Spray a very light layer of flat black over the primer and block it down. This will reveal all of the low and high spots that need to be addressed and help you from burning through the primer. Once the black is gone, stop sanding that spot, it is good to go.
Re: 600+whp 4cyl20v90Q...car primed
someone else mentioned guide coating to help me out, ive never done that before so hopefully it will help out.

looks good! cant wait to see it all nogaro.
Shaving the rubstrips on the b4 are way easier. The only thing that needs to be filled/welded is where the audi logo used to be.

:stupid: This is what I was trying to say with the two colors of primer. :slap:

That's not true, they have the same "gutters" as the B3 on the doors.

sorry about that, JAZZ is equally as good. I agree the B4 is a good choice but I've had just as many issues as you with the b3.

They have the gutters but with the rubstrips removed they look fine, I just peeled mine off and it looks way better. I might not even fill them in.

Awesome work. Love the engine bay color scheme.
And its a damn shame about that silver B4 VR6T getting hit.

thank you much. ran into a minor setback yesterday afternoon trying to finish up the bodywork that didnt come out all that great once i sprayed primer on the car. should hopefully have that all squared away this evening and fingers crossed i can spot prime the areas i had to work on.
cant wait to see that thing painted, and cant wait to finally drive it this year.

got it all painted, just realized a few minutes ago i forgot to paint the mirrors though lol, so thatll have to get done tomorrow. the mission was for a five foot paint job, and for the first car ive ever painted, im happy with it. not perfect when you get up close...some dust got kicked up and in the hood, some paint runs. all fixable with some work and time, perhaps over winter. for now....time to drive.
