Johnny's CQ

Post by cqcollection »

I picked up this coupe back in the spring of 2011. My brother, nsimps, told me about this coupe, and honestly I did not know how rare of a car I was buying. These are the things that were fixed before I purchased the coupe:

both window regulators
all they key locks
front wheel bearing
heater core

here are some early pictures

before purchasing the coupe I had a Subaru as a daily driver. I had to sell the Subaru, and the coupe became my daily driver. in order to keep it on the road. the cap and rotor were replaced, spark plugs, fuel filter, and ignition.

I got a new-used passenger seat. the seat cover was a great donation

and also one of the original tires had a hole on the side wall, but luckily found a new set of wheels and tires for a good deal.

with help from the trusted friends, I got a new-used driver seat, with an arm rest. score!

the interior is cleaning up nicely. and also acquired a cup holder insert. that is one thing that the Lexus LFA does not have....hopefully someone gets that.

there was some overheating issues, and through much battles the radiator was replaced with a brand new one. the complete timing belt overhaul was completed, and a new thermostat was installed. but as I learned, be sure the fan is running the right direction to keep the motor running at the right temperature.

Image

there was a lack of power, so the 034 injector kit was installed

Image

and here is my current steering wheel, and found a radio from a local junkyard.

thankfully Chris had an emblem for the wheel. and here I should mention a great thanks to Chris, Dave, Hank, and especially Nick for all your help with this build!

earlier this year, I finally got around to getting the B4 hood conversion completed. I had the pieces to complete the hood swap for over a year. this is how I got the hood home from the yard.

Image

I left some important pieces, and thankfully Chris was there to pick up the pieces. and valentine's day weekend the conversion was completed

the suspension reached a point where it needed attention. there was much struggle with the rear control arm bushing replacement. the driver side was done one saturday and the passenger side the following.

also the cv axle for passenger side was replaced, and the tie rod ends as well. the driver side cv axle will be needing replaced soon. the rear ball joints will be replaced soon, and an alignment will be in order.

there are a few things that still need to be addressed and replaced in near future (hopefully)

replace radiator fan
outside passenger door handle
new tires for the 17s
figure out the rough idle
inspection of brake pads
clutch pedal spring (pedal does not come all the way)
e-brake
AC....yes I do want AC

I know this isn't the most interesting build of all time. Right now I am a broke college student, and this is my daily driver. I know these are excuses, but I feel they are legit. My long term plans are coil overs, re upholster interior, euro bumpers, and eventual motor swap. I feel like my car would enjoy a 07k, but with the increase in popularity, perhaps other options will become cheaper. who knows, we shall see.
