audi 100 quattro avant auto to TDI manual

Post by audios »

I am looking to get a c4q avant. I have found an automatic and since i would be swapping to a TDI with a 6spd manual and have a doner URS4 for linkage/axles/pedals/etc i was wondeirng what all else i would be needing to swap over. I have read that possibly the rear diff? I have read the tunnel needs modification. I have been going through Dana's thread, although his B3 is a bit different than a C4 but some good info for sure. Any info would be great
thanks

My only recomendations would be:
-Use an ALH
-Use a VNT turbo of some sort
-Use a 240mm dual mass flywheel with the SRE clutch, you can get it from Frans with the transmission, and its a bit cheaper than from darkside. You also need the matching starter (from Frans too)
http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/p ... speed.html
-Use TDI 6-speed 01e, sounds like you are planning on this.
current:
-mk4 tdi wagon with some mods
-TDI b3 90q, holset turbo, be strong little connecting rods!
-the turbo tractor
past:
-11 second 90q junker
-20vt swapped 90q winter beater
-efi 20vt 4kq
-way too many other long gone urs's, 200's 4000's, b5's

I do like it, and I used an AHU, which had a wastegated turbo from the factory, so it was still an upgrade. I would use an ALH if I were to do it again, and I wouldnt want to switch from VNT to wastegate.

The real issue is not the turbo, its getting someone to do a good tune for a one of a kind TDI, especially the AHU/1Z. If I could easily get software to tune it myself, it would be just fine.

If I were to do it again, i'd do an ALH with a bigger VNT and a tune from one of the major vendors to work with it. Also, it is a bit easier to self tune the ALH because you can flash tune it, but its still not a simple or cheap affair.

At this point I have too many other things going on to get into reverse engineering 20 year old ECU's to fine tune it. The ONLY thing that sucks about my 90 is the tune is shit, and its pretty much impossible to get someone to tune it. I want to switch it to an ALH ecu or a mechanical pump so I can actually fine tune the thing.

My engine is hurting, running great, but seemingly burning oil. I think I hurt it while beating the crap out of it in a 24" blizzard. I was the last car to make it over the mountain, and I think I was running really high EGT's for a long time. My bad, but I WANTED TO MAKE IT DAMNIT! So the car will come back apart to inspect what is wrong (I suspect rings have lost tension from heat). I will have to decide what I am going to do about the ECU/tune at that point. I might just slap it back together and not beat it so hard for long periods of time. I do have an 11mm ALH injection pump waiting to go in, so it might be a good time to swap to an ALH ecu.

Trying to build a house right now, so its hard to care about the audi very much while living in a camper.

The car is drive by cable and i want to keep it that way with the euro landrover pump, all mechanical :) I have an ALH in my car now and a friend has one i can get for cheap for an extra motor, if i pick it up i could help you with the alh ecu for sure. Does the guy that built the 90 MTDI have a build thread i could read?

Yes, his thread is on here, its titled Rich's 80 MTDI or something like that. His username is Oil_Me

Dont get me wrong, I am 100% in the ETDI camp as far as making a car a great driver goes. I know people love the MTDI stuff, but even my bastard child 90 is like a factory car for driveability, starting, high idle, cruise, tach, inspection testing ETC. I love that. I am just frustrated with the tuning marketplace. If there was something like the EFI live stuff for diesel trucks, it would be amazing.

I have a trans tunnel cut from an UrS4 if you did not want to cut up your donor car.

I've done an ALH into c4. I have a thread on tdiclub. It's very straightforward wiring but making engine mounts kinda sucks as you have to negotiate the turbo on the passenger side.

Then the crank broke. I still look at it sitting in the block outside sometimes and think WTF

DBW is super easy too. Not much work to get the pedal stuff in. I just swapped the "gas" pedal basically.

im sure ill have lots of questions. If this shell is fairly clean and i pick it up it will be a while before i start it. i still have to get the 200 20v back together first. i planned on MTDI due to the simplicity/reliability i know the ETDI isnt that tough but the more parts = more parts to break in my line of thinking. As to the tunnel offer, the doner car has been sitting since 2012 i plan on taking the AAN as a spare and to strip the shell and put in storage for spare parts for the 200 20v and possibly this other c4 should i acquire it.
