DocQuattro wrote:Most of all Derek, it's a car. A very special one, but it's still just a car. Drive it, enjoy it. I LOOOOOOOVE mine and will never sell it, but it's still a car. Paint it whatever color you want, since it needs it anyway- I'll put in a vote for white ;) The US cars aren't much fun to drive stock anyway, so have a little fun with it! As far as mods there are huge number that qualify as improvements that happen to increase performance in one way or another, as I'm sure you're aware, and no one gets to flame you for it. Wiring is #1! Ditch the stock radiator(s) and no one gets to complain, until you do it'll run hot when run hard. The AC just hangs 100lbs on the nose, blocks airflow to the radiator, and sucks anyway. Put the stock headlamps in a box and store them away for the future. Be prepared to spend $$ for parts too- mine has averaged about $100 per startup since I got it in 99 :tard: That's why I have a 4kcsq to beat the crap out of, it drives about the same!

hey Tucker... this was my line of thought, and and i wouldn't have had too much problem with the Gobi until i remembered Zermatt.... zermatt is soo hawt. and the color is only paint. it can be removed and a different put in it's place.

as to the regular issues with the car, as they break down i'll take care of them. if the hydraulic brake system craps out, i already plan to replace it with standard vacuum system. like i said though, i'll keep everything i take off. as to the wiring, i'm looking for a parts 4kq with a black interior to get carpet and dash from, and pilfer the entire harness and update that at the time of painting as i'll strip the car bare for it.

here's zermatt for those who've forgotten it :) this is a 4kq i had in my possession the beginning of last year.

i like the darker colors. they go faster too because the darker paint retains heat better, thus heating the ambient air around you, making it thinner and easier to pass through. theoreticlly it could work....

Nice find and welcome to the club. It's in better condition than the 200k urq I picked up as a project for my son and I. I noticed the bumper bolt covers are removed in the later shots, don't loose those. As with many parts on that car, they are NLA. Drive the snot out of it and enjoy it.

Way less scary than most used UR's I've seen!

Glad it has found a good home, and this beats another diesel SUV conversion!

You should check the press transducer in the ECU.. I've seen few of these failing and causing pinging above anything more than 4psi.
She would be rocket fast up to that point though with lots of torque and quick spool up due to ignition advance.

Yes, BTDT !

This is what happened after driving around with a bad pressure transducer in my urq (MAC02)..

Image

After I got it all back together, I pulled that pressure transducer, and rigged up a push-button switch that 'simulated' full boost pressure to the ECU. That way, I could at least do full throttle pulls without toasting the HG a second time.

After finding that being incredibly annoying, I swapped in a complete MAC 11 /MC1 harness & ECU.

Works WAY better, and easier to tweak when it's time..

Why bother with the standard h/g when a metal one works fine and holds up to the abuse better.

If you haven't heard the thousands of posts before me, you found a very good/once in a lifetime deal on your UrQ.

Mine was an Alpine White '83 with tons of problems and I paid nearly three times as much, and it had some rusty spots.

I guess what I'm saying is I wish they all could be california... :D

For those still suffering from the "urq vid no worky" problem:
Without dowloading anything else, all I did was change the extension to ".mpeg". Yep, that's right, five keystrokes, and it plays. Booyah.
