Sorry for me being a tard and confused. You said it was an MC engine in there? I *thought* all were oil/water cooled turbo motors? :tard:

Yess, but, in my tired and sleepy daze, my alter ego typed that
.
Im probably wrong, but that just was a curious thought.

My alter ego posted that :tard: . But yes, I meant oil lubricated and water cooled.
I thought all MC's were that way? Excuse my newb'ness

So Derek - if this car has an MC in it but no water jacketed turbo - is the water nipple freeze plug just plugged. I don't see why a person would go to the trouble of putting an MC in and not use the water jacketed turbo. Are you sure its an MC? I dont' think casting numbers alone will tell you - maybe you've seen other MC evidence such as the ECU .....

The WX had a K26 fitted, the MC had a K24, regardless of watercooled or not I would chose the K26 over a K24 anyday.
Which in itself is a joke as how could such a small passage provide any cooling to the turbo while running, the water passage is only there to protect the bearings once the engine has been shutoff and provided the after run circuit is fully functional will it be of any benefit!
Simply adopting what race drivers do and taking the last mile of a journey at a more sedate pace, allowing the turbo to spool down, and waiting for a minute once at your destination will greatly improve the reliability of an oil cooled turbo. Also good practice on any turbo tbh.

i didn't look for the water nipple when i had i up on the hoist as i didn't know the block was an MC at the time. i did see the MC on the block, i know how that works
. as for the management system, i'm not sure as i didn't pull the ecu, but it has the old round coil and no knock snsor, so i figured it was whatever stock system. plus the air temp sensor gave me the 4k rpm cutout and i cleaned the terminals on it and it went away.

You must have seen the MC II.. later MCs with higher compression and dual knock sensors that came on 1989 200 quattros.. those had MAC14 controlling them as well.
