Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Just so you know, mine is straight from eBay and cost me like $25. It's a universal "M3" style lip that is 50.5" in length.
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
I like it! Very clean look.
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
This sucks! Tick. Tick. Tick. Crickets...... Waiting....... Waiting some more from an un-named supplier for a copper head gasket. It's been a month now with no definite answer and my motor can't go back together without it.
I sure wish there was an alternative supplier/manufacturer.... Hint hint (Hank)Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
I have reused my copper gasket for a couple of times now. It is just sitting on the shelf Josh if you want to give it a go. I just coat it with copper spray and reinstall with fresh mls top and bottom layers.
I am boring out regular MLS gaskets to 83mm these days too. The feedback on them has been great!

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Will this work with my o-ringed block?
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
I am under the impression that I need to use only thee solid copper for the stainless wire to bite into without the other two layers.
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
My block was oringed as well, the company that makes them recommends only using the single copper if you are tearing the motor down frequently. They tend to leak iwthout the mLS outer layers, though I never had much luck keeping the copper gasket from weeping water.
This is why I started to bore out MLS gaskets. They are more reliable, cheaper, and easier to supply from what I ahve seen in the 16v world.

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Nah, dad used copper with the steel layers and o ring and it was perfect.

Got any pics of your dad's deck? I bet you see signs of leaking.

Somewhere... I'll check next time I'm on the computer, maybe later tonight. Nothing really seemed too unusual but I don't think we were looking that hard for coolant leaks.

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
I'm interested in this issue too as I spoke with Jeff Gerner about o-ringing and the coolant weeping was his major gripe. So Hank, we are o-ringing and using an MLS gasket or what?

Gah, don't have any pics of the deck without a head gasket on. Dad is going to check it out tomorrow anyway but couldn't really recall much. We'll see.

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Hank, describe what you are talking about as an alternative.
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
This
http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-com ... -1286.html
or Just an "MLS" or multi-layer steel, AKA normal/"late" steel head gasket for an AAN that Hank has bored out (instead of whoever supplies/bores out the copper)
disregard compression dropping bit - http://www.034motorsport.com/engine-com ... p-114.html

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
So that would potentially relieve any issues with sealing, yes?

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Dad just told me no signs of leakage, he's going to send me a pic so y'all can verify.

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Finally! A month or more and the copper head gasket is in the mail! I can't wait to get this project moving again. I might even sell my Jetta to make the funds come a little faster and be driving this thing before the end of summer.
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
i kinda wanna see that treser spoiler get put to use!
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Nice Josh. I am jigging up the 6 speed mounts today for you.

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Great, cause I'm gonna need them.
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Hank, are the transmission mounts for the Type 44/01E setup up for sale yet?
Also any thoughts on keeping my rear diff a 3:89 and changing the 01E to match or going with the 4:11 that comes in the 01E and using a diff with 4:11's already in it.

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Very, Very close. I have a couple of 3.89 TDI 01e's with oil pumps if you want to go that route. 2.5L+ TDI .56 is awesome.
Not hard to source a 200 20v or mc2 4.11 rear diff either though.

Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Scott from advanced automotion said he can install the 3:89's in the 01E, but I was interested on your thoughts about drivability, speed, exceleration, etc between the 4:11's and 3:89. How much do you want for the TDI 01E?
Re: Josh's 2.5 200QT
Let me know when you come up with the prices for the mounts
