I can truly say I hated installing these rockers and rear inner wheel arches.

The rear carbon fenders must have easily been off and on at least 20 times per side. The inner wheel arch has to be spot on as this dictates door gaps etc. I still have probably another 10 hours in getting the rear carbon panel fitting the way I want it to, but at least the bloody rockers are done

Had a bit of a hangover that day.....hence the perrier. Starting to think about the roll cage again.
I want to get the car on the rottisserie first. I was actually doing roll cage research before I wrote this.

Now the fun can begin.

Car on it's side ready for surgery.

Some holes to fix in the floor,and then on to further strenghthening the floor.
I think at this rate I could omitt the roll cage all together, however roll cage is still going in.

Also started seam welding the shell.

I'm copying my urq build with the subframe connectors etc. This is the fun part for me. I like the challenge of making it all come together........most times

BTW, do you have more detailed pictures of your "rottissery"? Can't remember, but thought they were made of heavy duty engine stands... any details or upclose pix would be awesome. Toying with making some for our UrQ rebuild down the road.

A few old pics guys of the rear diff mount.

I decided to mount the diff to the floor just like the rally cars. Lot's of work but worth it IMO.

I have to send some dxf files away so I can get some parts cnc plasma cut. The plan is to get most of the sheet
metal on the floor done, and hopefully get it in primer before winter.

Next revision on my URQ is going to be under bracing like you did on your URQ, and I think I will hard mount the diff to the subframe then as well. if it is all solid mounted anyway, mounting to the body wouldn't matter.

Still thinking about engine spec etc. I've driven both Mike's RS2'd urq and Martin's GT 30 powered cars, and while the power is impressive as hell, it's just not for me.
I love the way my chipped K24 comes on power so early in the powerband on my urq ,but obviously it falls on it's face after 5k rpm.

I'm wondering what a billet GT2871 sized turbo would give me boost/rpm wise in a hopefully 2500lb car,with a 2.5 l displacement. Hell if a divided housing was available even
a quick spool valve would be considered also.

For my build, mega power is not my goal. I'm going for the "complete
package mentality".

I agree with Craig, even though the '84 is super fun to drive, in a straight line or track only, I enjoyed my old '85 with chipped 3B a lot more (for the road)... the response was so quick you could play with oversteer in a slow corner, center torsen and locked rear... with the 3071 by the time boost hits the corner is gone and done with and I am doing "arrest me officer" speeds in 3rd gear. Not boring, but not what I am after as well.

You Canadians are just in 1 gear too high all the time.

It is an allusion that big turbo cars like my old 20vt were "dead" below 4000 rpm. Sure, it didn't make 600whp till it came on boost, but it still made more hp than a k24 car would ever dream of at 2500. Even with b5 s4 gears, I can pull chipped URQs in sixth with their URQ 016 in 5th. So yeah, a big turbo like a 35r is only making 5psi at 3000 rpm, but 5 psi of 35r is more power than 20psi of k24.

That said, I have a billet k24 in the works that is k24 spool rs2 power. Stay tuned

Just a small update guys.

I welded the diff mount to car and made up a strengthening plate for the sheet metal. The factory S1E2 also installed this bracket. Funny, I've never seen this on the A2 or first generation
sport quattro rally car. I'm no engineer, however if it's good enough for the factory, it's good enough for me

I also fettled the floor and went about fabricating the subframe connectors. It's not done yet,but you get the idea.

Managed to get some work done to the car this week. I fabricated rear control arm stay bar brackets for the body as per rally car spec. These parts were.. bar steward's to get just right, but I managed to replicate the factory NLA pieces. As usual thanks to Martin for having said NLA parts on hand so as I could copy them. The weather is closing in on me, but I hope to get the floor welded in before the good old Canadian winter sets in.

I decided to cut the trunk floor out after finding several rust holes. I could have patched them up, however I decided to start from scratch. I also replaced the sheet metal that the bumper bolts too. A tricky piece to make from scratch also

A few pics. I still have to grind all the welds etc, but you get the idea.

On a side note. Very sad indeed to hear that Compomotive filed for bankruptcy......... I think we may have had the last batch of wheels ever to be made by an iconic British company who serverd the motorsport industry for many years..........fck!!
