Nope no URS4 in my future, gonna keep the 5k on the road as long as possible. Looking at getting into a project that can actually be profitable rather than a money pit.

It's pretty much impossible not to make money on an aircooled 911, especially given my new line of work :)

And thus the reason for changing marques. Will retain some form of Audi winter beater probably forever unless a cheap C4 comes along down the line.

Haven't been doing nothing, just not a lot on my cars ;)

To recap, the Avant almost got scrapped, instead got sold for $400 as a parts car.

So this is turning into the Valentine 5k/everything else not my GTI thread. Last week I FINALLY did the 5-10 "ish" year old timing belt on the 5k... let's just say I'm not sure if the belt or tensioner was more scary. Feeling much better, further upgrades coming, still rocking it every day without putting a penny into it.

The timing belt/H20 pump was an MC2 setup I ordered years ago by accident, stole an almost brand new idler off my free MC2 block and bam, good for another 100k ;) She does need an oil change like woah.

Mostly just working on boring shit though...

Image

~500hp K27 930 makes me :) I welded in a nice sized patch and some fresh 930 flare to cover up some previous brake ducting. Came out pretty primo, I'm happy to report I have been invited back to work on it haha. I'll get some pics of the finished product. Then I burned/scraped undercoat in the trunk for a couple hours.

New tools: Always fun. I had actually lit it up a few times at this point, not sure why I look so amazed :idunno:

Image

After studying Porsches like it's my job ( ;) ) on and off the clock for weeks it was nice to finally lay hands on one. Looking foreword to more in the future.

Valentine puked coolant once at at home bad and the next day at work. Zero shits were given, daily driving was continued with intermittent coolant low level light and zero overheating. Distilled water added three weeks later. Rock on 5k, rock on.

On a related note I finally bought not one but two 3.0l b6 a4s this week. Project mayhem to commence, hopefully resulting in a nice new daily by the end of winter.

Haha what that didnt keep yoy guys on the edges of your seats?!

One b6 rear ended someone so the nose is toast but has good heads, interior body panels electronics etc. Other is mint mint inside and outside and is a sport package but lost the engine. The hit car has mint summers and the mint car has mint snows which is the main reason I'm getting both. Goal is to pull both motors and part/scrap it all to end up with the nice one, sans engine, for $800 or so.

Then a $500 1.8t parts car from the local yard should yield a $200 engine which I'll throw a set of rods in, put it on megasquirt with a holset for good measure to result in an unbreakable ~400hp daily. The nice car is an 02 which means flexible main shaft 01e goodness.

What sold me was getting in the nice one... put the seat so far back I couldnt put the clutch all the way down. I'm 6'5 = sold

So pretty minor update. The 5k toils on, I took it on a round trip up to Portland, Maine and back the weekend before last. More than 15hrs of driving easy, I went with tow straps, alt belts, tools, a jack, even a 75ft extension cord and a battery charger since the battery is pretty weak, so of course nothing went wrong

Today I finally installed a part from the company I work for. I converted to lug studs and I used the longest ones we have... 60mm death race style stud poke; perfect for the theme of the car. Anyways, here's a few pics and some work related stuff. I've been getting to do a lot of marketing style stuff and all these pictures are taken by yours truly, sorry if the size format is a little goofy these are all my Instagram square format copies!

The Coming of the Ugly Audi - B6 1.8t

Post by vt10vt »

Okay so about that B6... to rehash it was a 3.0l V6 01E 6spd that I got for $350 after parting/scrapping the other almost identical B6 I got in a package with the silver car.

It has taken wayy longer and way more money and time than originally anticipated. I guess in the end I should have anticipated that. To rehash the goals of this build they were/are:

-400whp capable 1.8t w/ 6spd 01E
-Comfortable and reliable daily
-Relatively cheap to build
-Integrated factory B6 Body, AWM engine and VEMS ECU

So this is what I came up with for a build sheet:

AWM 1.8T traded ABA/16v for the complete motor/harness, the AWM used a wideband 02 so it was the perfect harness
AEB pistons
SCAT Rods/ARP Studs
ARP Headstuds
Stock small port head
Southbend Stg 4 clutch
Southbend Steel Flywheel
VEMS Econoseal - Sequential ignition w/ Bosch COP
Siemens 870cc injectors
Walbro 400lph (E85 version)
Homebuilt equalish divided exhaust manifold
-Cerakote ceramic coating applied by me
Fully divided wastegate feeds
Audi I5 wastegate :D
HX35 (12cm/3 - 7 blade)
ARP Headstuds
3" DP
3" -> to dual 2.25" exhaust (going to see if I need to go 2.5")
6 Speed 01E (factory stock)
CX Racing intercooler
Homebuilt 3" charge piping
Homebuilt engine mounts

Anyway, on to some pics!

Towing the B6 into my downtown Burlington garage (at my house no extra cost in rent :) )

I know the B6 is just about everyone's least favorite, but for me the price combined with the comfort, the cleanliness of this chassis (inside and out) and the factory 01E made it a great choice. Someday I may move the driveline into a nice B5 but we shall see. I think I'm going to paint the lowers body colored, and next spring (assuming plans stay the same) I will be doing Cayenne calipers, potentially a semi-built head and some combination of mild lowering, adjustable dampers and a larger rear swaybar in anticipation of running a couple track days next summer.

Thanks for reading along! :)

Re: Shawn's thread: pg17 for B6 after-build pics

Post by vt10vt »

So I've been driving it for about a month, around town and highway cruise are decent, idle quality is alright and it has yet to leave me stranded! It's currently making 10psi (1.9bar spring) and goes okay.

There's been so many little projects to chase and finish I haven't gotten around to adding more boost yet. Just a lot of working out bugs and finishing little things that bother me. This ended up eating a lot of my summer so I've been trying to take time to enjoy the rest of that short VT season too. Plus I'm single in gorgeous Burlington so I spend some time doing that too.

Once I have it running around 20psi and I'm certain the build is solid and can take it we will be headed to EFI Express so Mr. Swanson can do some power tuning- can't wait for that!
