the only proctologist worth seeing is one who drives a ford probe... then you know he means business

Got the "borrowscope" from Javad on Friday :thanks:

finally got around to taking a peek inside my tranny tonight after watching the pats game. I should buy one of these things

I tried taking a picture through the viewfinder but it never really came out very well. But at least it shows my general approach

So here's the annoying part: I cant really see anything obvioiusly wrong. The throwout bearing sits where it is supposed to live, the clutch throwout arm is in position and on its ball mount... The onlything that looked a little strange is I THINK the gap between the plastic backing of the throwout bearing and the metal face is wider than a pic I found off the 034 motorsports website. That doesn't mean much though, could just be a depth perception issue... Also, I would expect there to be something causing the throwout to be CLOSER to the pressure plate in order to cause my specific issue: eg the arm from the clutch slave not being able to reach the actuation fork.

Haydn, you get your v8 flywheel and clutch gear yet? It'd be cool to assemble the stuff on the floor and take some measurements to perhaps make it a little clearer to me what went wrong :wtf:

Marc, do you have any free play clutch pedal when it sits at rest? there should be a little bit so as to not cause a constant pressure build between the master and slave. i've been through this a few times with other cars. one was my suburban and i destroyed the rod from the pedal and the master.

with the slave installed the pushrod on the slave (the part that goes into the tranny and actuates the throwout bearing) does not touch the throwout arm at all, and thats with the piston fully extended on the slave.

Its my understanding that he piston needs to be under compression when installed, otherwise there is really no way for it to work as intended.

The play you are talking about must come from the pedal assembly end?

yes, i was talking the master to the pedal. sooo, have you pulled your slave out to see if it looks proper? or did you somehow change push rods ?

its brand new, replaced it because the stock one blew out....

I tried an S6 slave breifly, which is different. That one doesn't reach either.

My next step is going to be to head over to Haydn's place and mock up an engine and tranny with the same clutch/pp combo so I can measure distance to the throwout fork. if necessary, I'll cut and add metal to the slave pushrod...

ok, do this. grab a pushrod from an 016 car. you're running an 016 style thin flywheel in an 01A... so for some freaky wierd reason, that might be causing you an issue. i know lots of other people have done it with the stock parts, but ...meh :? maybe you're the exception? :P

hmm, I think I have one in the basement. I dont know if the pushrod will be compatible with the 01A slave, though.. but at least it will be interesting to compare the difference between the two.

couldn't you always just take a measure and confirm it?

almost impossible to get an accurate measurement with the tranny installed.

I must be confused about what your measuring. Seems like you should just need to know the distance from the throw out bearing arm to the end of the transmission where the slave mounts. Then compare that to the slave itself..no?

yes thats what needs to be done. Access is an issue. Plan is to stop by Haydn's place who has the same parts that we can assemble on the shop floor and measure with everything out of the car. I also just want to verify a few things that will be easier when looking at a mockup as opposed to an installed engine/tranny.

Marc, you should have to compress the slave as you install it. If it's just sliding in, you might have the wrong TO bearing. I currently have this issue while running an AAN Centerforce PP along with my MC1 TO bearing and flat 016 FW and 016 transmission. To properly fix my issue, I'd need the later style thick TO bearing from the MC2 on up that puts the surface closer to my PP. Since you have an 01A, I'm not sure if you can use the 016 TO bearings, but I bet you're having the same problem of it not extending far enough.

I fixed my problem by extending the rod in the slave by about 1/2". The rod pulls out and you can weld an extension in. Or to test it, find an allen cap screw that fits over the front of the rod and grind it off so it extends aout 1/2", tape it on, install it, and see if it engages the clutch.

I lengthened the rod, not going to bother installing it tonight since I have a new slave hose waiting for me at the dealer tomorrow. I have to take the hose off in order to install it, the extra length makes it difficult to maneuver in place with the lines attached. Will post an update tomorrow when I test fit it.

I noticed today when I pulled the automatic stuff off the v8 that it had two spacers.

Does one keep one of these at all when installing something like the 034/fidanza flywheel?

I doubt it, but figured I ask since your kinda in the same mind frame of what I'm working on right now.

Know what I'm talking about? I would of taken pictures but I blew a circuit breaker and the box isn't in my shop. So tomorrow I'm wiring in another 30amp setup, If I can get the key to the other garage.
