Only way it can fail is if the flow meter fails. Definitely a nice setup and something I'd consider in my RENNWGN for higher boost on the street over e85 with all of its unknown variables.

Wow, that is not a lot of timing in boost.

Interesting way to set it up! I'll have to look into that more

20 pulls on the dyno says no. EGTs are around 1500 at the exhaust port

Jim Green's 90q 20vt - 600whp 07k build

Post by audifreakjim »

Just got back from the track, the car ran pretty well for its first time out. The only drama was the hose that came off the water pump outlet and made riverside into an ice rink. I also have some sort of wastegate issue that was only allowing 6psi of boost.

But holy crap does the car handle well. The weight reduction up front surprised me a few times because it turns in much faster now. This is also the first real test of the custom koni shocks I put Ina year ago. The tires backed up what I was seeing as well, they all rose in psi at about the same rate. Not like before where it was only the fronts spiking in temperature and pressure.

It was kinda fun driving around with no power, you really get to work in driving instead of managing the car.

Wicked report. Must be a lot of fun. Probably a good thing you're back to a momentum car and can learn the new dynamics. Then when the power is back up to where you're used to it being (and beyond) you'll have the new handling characteristics down pat.

Any track videos?

I had two students, the car to deal with and a head cold. I didn't have time to mess with videos unfortunately.

Plug the knock sensor into a small amplifier or your computer, and listen with good headphones. Swanson makes a nice cable. I use ear buds underneath ear muffs.

Yeah man! You getting the itch? The car has been on ramps for the past few week, had to fine tune a few things I discovered at the track. The biggest was tracking down the boost leak, that's fixed. I also upgraded the coolant hose coming from the electric water pump and used t-bolt clamps on it. The pump has three beads on it and no flat clamping surface so the crappy universal bendy hose I had on there and a single clamp wasn't up to the task. It softened up and blew off on track. Finally the turbine housing is getting re-coated, everything bubbled off because they didn't bake it first and applied the coating too thick. I am using a new place I heard about by a guy walking his dog, lol.

It's still a great bang for the buck. Honestly Ben, if I had access to e85, I would have probably not done the 07k. A smaller efr turbo and e85 goes a long way!

Just the front end weight reduction makes it worth it right? :D But seriously, I won't be going 07k for a long time, I want to maximize my 20v stuff first, then go from there. I still have a lot of potential I'm leaving on the table.

Would it really be worth it to you Ben? We should have a thread that quantifies and compiles the real advantages of running an 07K. I don't think it is worth the effort if you already have a 20vt car and aren't going to utilize the weight and weight distribution advantages in a meaningful way. So the det ceiling is higher... how much? Is that worth it? I'm really asking here because I don't know for sure so don't go getting offended, you 07k guys :)
